I popped in by chance a couple of days ago while running errands. I love this place. I haven't seen or had chess pie in ages, it's especially rare to see in the Midwest.

I had a slice and the next day I was back to buy a whole pie for a work party. There was a line from one end of the store to the door but I was lucky enough to snag one. And they were suprisingly fast with service, something tells me these lines happen often. This was at 8:30am on a Saturday.

The chess pie was a huge hit! My coworkers inhaled it, many of which had never heard of chess pie. I swear it's just crack in carb form they make at this bakery and I am here for it.

After a long night at work I went back to try a hand pie and opted for the chicken mole. My god it was so unexpectedly good. So good I had to write a review while eating it and walking back to my apartment.

I usually pop into the local bakeries after my night shifts for breakfast, hands down this place is now the top of my list.

The pastry and pies may fool you into thinking it's down home baking, which it is, but after you take your first bite you realize it's professionally made comfort food. Which I feel a lot of places attempt but few can pull off as we as as Spilt Milk does.

11/10...

I dropped in to Spilt Milk yesterday morning to see what kinds of baked goods were offered. I thought the selection was small for the size of the bakery. I assumed this was because the foot traffic on South Blvd and the available parking was minimal. In addition, eating in was not a possibility because of the pandemic. The pastries displayed looked very appetizing. I purchased a chocolate chip cookie ($3.50) to go. The young lady who served me as very pleasant. The shop was very clean with an old-fashioned feel. I was looking forward to having the cookie with some coffee at home. My first bite of the cookie was a completely unexpected experience. I tasted sweetness, but beyond the sugar I found the taste to be nondescript. The cookie began to bend. Looking inside, I could see that the cookie dough was not baked all the way through. I tried another part of the cookie and found the same. I was disappointed. I have read twenty or so reviews of Spilt Milk here on Google and the ratings for the food at Spilt Milk are very good. My guess is that my cookie was an exception to the rule. I wouldn't judge a bakery on a single cookie. It's very likely I will go back based on the positive experiences of other...

First of all, I will say the food was incredible. The problem that caused me to write a review is the service. My friend and I tried this place for the first time Sunday, we both got a cookie and a slice of pie. We ordered and waited for ours to be wrapped to go. While we were waiting another customer came in AFTER us and ordered an entire apple pie. Well, 5 min later they came to my friend and told her they sold out of the pie that had been cut and instead of cutting slices from the last apple pie they were going to force her to take a refund or pick a different pie because the GUY THAT CAME IN WELL AFTER US had ordered a whole apple pie. That's not right! She was there first, why should she compromise? Why couldn't he have been the one forced to pick a different pie? That's very, very poor business practice. It was early and they are very busy, I'm sure they would've sold the rest of the pie slices. That's really not the point though, it was our first time and what a real taste of SOUR MILK. My friend was really mad but polite about it, she vowed to never go back. Extreme prejudice and bad business ethics don't get overwritten by good food....

First of all, the smell when you walk in transports you to memories I don't even have of sleepovers at grandmas with her famous chocolate chip cookies backing, back when we all had hope and dreamt of becoming cowboy astronauts. The had the biggest, flakest croissants I have ever seen. And then the cookies- I didn't have the money for one despite them being fairly prices and like half what crumbl or insomniac charges. This bakery is the nightmare that causes crumbl to wake in cold sweats. They also have quiches and savory pies! Which I wouldn't eat bc of the meat, but made me want to because of reading discworld books. They also have take and bake stuff and die holiday take out But on top of that, I had gone in bc it said there was a food pantry next door and it has closed a year ago. But they gave me the most delicious banana bread I have ever had.

I stopped in to try a coffee and a breakfast item. I bought a cold brew with milk, an espresso scone, honey scone and a coffee butter cookie. I enjoyed all the items. The "cafe" was clean, employees were attentive and helpful, the menu for food and drinks had a lot to choose from and the atmosphere was calming and inviting. There are places to sit inside, in the front outside and a nice comfy outside patio in the back. I loved everything about this place including the name. The windows in front allow you to watch the bake goods being made, they have grab and go items for quick lunch and other items you can buy that are prepacked for gifts etc. I will visit again soon. If you are in Oak Park you have to stop by this wonderful little bakery cafe.

The blueberry walnut muffin and buttermilk biscuit are perfection. Also the maple scone, yummmm. I will be coming back regularly for these pastries!! Iced vanilla latte was also delicious. They have a TON of pastry and drink options. A few different seating options indoors to enjoy your treat but this isn’t a place I would come to sit down and do work. Outdoor patio is lovely, lots of space. This is the perfect spot to meet up with friends over the summer! Super cute gift selection as well. Cookies are fairly crumbly but delicious, the ham and cheese croissant is dense but also incredible. The quiche is also good!
