We stopped in for a light dinner. The atmosphere is great. We ordered two glasses of wine a charcuterie board and meatballs. We were seated at the table right at the corner end of the bar near the door and the wait station. This detail is important to the rest of the story. Our waiter was Tim. Tim was either preoccupied with other matters or he is the worst waiter we have met in a long time. He had a special skill that he could walk about the room and not making eye contact with any of his tables, including us. Here are some of the “Tim” highlights (1) our wine was put at the end of the bar and sat there for over 10 minutes until Tim got to it, he was too busy chatting with the waitress at the weight station. (2) a few minutes later the kitchen brought out the.charcuterie board -as soon as they walked away, Tim stopped and asked how things were going, we said fine, assuming that the meatballs were still on their way (3) about 45 minutes in we finished the water, food and wine -we kept trying to make eye contact with our waiter, but he is a master of looking straight ahead and not at the clients (4) The bus boy, was gracious enough to fill our waters, upon our request. (5) we eventually gave up on the meatballs, and I called out Tim’s name to get his attention. (6) the meatballs were not on the bill, therefore he simply forgot to put in for it… Since he went directly from our table to the weight station approximately 10 feet away it is surprising that he forgot one of the three items that we ordered! (7) Tim only had 4-5 occupied tables while we were there, he ignored everyone after his initial check in with them. ….. ok, yes, he probably would have responded if we called for him, but that would...

Having eaten at most places in Yosemite, I’d say that the Ahwahnee Hotel bar is one of the better options. I like the Curry Village deck (pizza or bar food) for dinner, the Ahwahnee dining room for breakfast and the Ahwahnee bar as a dinner or lunch alterative. Dinner at the Wawona Hotel was also really good, if you’re in that area. The Ahwahnee bar has more vegan / vegetarian options than the main dining room, is a lot cheaper, and yet the quality of the food is still very good.
I recommend the vegan Artichoke Hummus (Artichokes, Tomatoes, Chickpea Hummus, Sweet Peppers, Kalamata Olives, Fresh Herbs, Warm Pita) for $16.50 and also liked the Panzanella Salad ($14.50). The soup was quite good too ($10.50) although at first there didn’t seem to be much soup since the bread bowl ate it all! (It turned out fine in the end as the soup-soaked bread was delicious.) Aside from some minor mix-ups, the service was pretty good. The best thing is that you’re in the Ahwahnee! You can look out onto the beautiful meadow and valley, or eat outdoors on warm days.
I’m giving the Ahwahnee Hotel Bar 3 out of 5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, for these reasons:
• About half the bar menu is suitable for vegetarians and at least two items are vegan dishes (Artichoke Hummus and Tabbouleh Quinoa Bowl). • The best way for the Ahwahnee could do to improve its footprint is cut the beef from the menu – beef and lamb have much larger carbon footprints than other animal products. • Could do a much better job at communicating on...
Read moreMyself and my husband recently visited the Ahwahnee to eat lunch in the dining room, however it was already closed by the time we arrived. We instead opted to grab lunch at the bar, which was still open. Our server was great, a young woman with long black hair. The food was acceptable. However, one of the employees, a man named Tim, was horrific. We couldn’t find our server so we tried to flag him down for some water since he was stood near one of the computers, not doing anything. He attempted to pretend he didn’t hear us, until we finally loudly said “EXCUSE ME”. He finally came over then, and told us that our server would bring us water. We told him that we couldn’t see her and asked again, to which he begrudgingly brought over a pitcher to fill our waters. He then returned to the computer to loudly complain about “entitled guests” to another server. When our server did return we asked for his name and she apologized for his behavior, which she shouldn’t have to do as it wasn’t her fault for his poor attitude. She is the only reason for this review being anything more than 1 star. For a place as nice (and expensive) as the Ahwahnee I am SHOCKED they would allow such behavior from...
