A Magical 4-Day Adventure in Yosemite’s Backcountry

I recently returned from an unforgettable 4-day backpacking trip in Yosemite National Park, and I can't recommend the experience enough. From start to finish, it was everything I hoped for—and more.

The backcountry scenery was absolutely breathtaking. Towering granite cliffs, serene alpine lakes, and sweeping vistas greeted us at every turn. It felt like stepping into another world. Each night, we camped under a canopy of stars so brilliant, it was hard to look away—an experience that made me feel both small and deeply connected to the natural world.

We also had the chance to do some rock climbing, and the thrill of scaling Yosemite’s iconic terrain is something I’ll never forget. Whether you're a beginner or seasoned climber, there’s something here for everyone.

Our stay at the backpackers camp was another highlight. The community of fellow adventurers was welcoming and inspiring.

Before heading home, we treated ourselves to a meal at Seven Tents Pavilion—and wow, it exceeded expectations. The food was delicious, hearty, and exactly what we needed after days on the trail.

If you're considering a Yosemite trip, don’t hesitate. Whether you're climbing, camping, or simply soaking in the beauty, this place will...

I felt like the visitor center was nice but it honestly didn’t have the friendliest park rangers there providing information. At least the lady who we went to. When we asked if she recommended driving up to Glacier Point (given how crowded the park was that day) she just said yes you can drive there. I asked if it was crowded up there in terms of parking and whether it makes more sense to take the park shuttle if that’s available. She simple just repeated saying I have no idea but you can drive there (which obviously I was able to tell from the map).

Next, I asked her is there anywhere we could swim. She said just go anywhere along the Merced River. There are definitely spots that have stronger versus calmer currents which we noticed while driving. So it would’ve been nice if she provided some of that information, which park rangers at other national parks had no issues sharing with us.

Just made us feel like we waited for 20 minutes in line for information and was basically told what we...

The Yosemite Valley Welcome Center is an essential stop for anyone visiting the park, whether it’s your first time or your hundredth. Located right in the heart of Yosemite Valley, the center provides a wealth of information on trails, park history, wildlife, and safety tips. The rangers and staff are incredibly knowledgeable and eager to help you plan your day or suggest hikes based on your interests and skill level.

The exhibits inside are engaging and educational, making it a great spot to learn about Yosemite's geological history, the significance of its towering cliffs, and the diverse ecosystem that makes this park so unique. The bookstore offers a nice selection of maps, souvenirs, and guidebooks, while the interactive displays are perfect for families and kids.

Overall, the Welcome Center sets the tone for an incredible Yosemite experience and is a must-visit for anyone wanting to make the most out of their trip. Highly recommended as the first stop on your...

The obvious thing is that Yosemite is beautiful all on its own. What makes it even better are the people who work here. We stayed in Upper Pines Campground. The camp host worked at the registration booth as you enter the Campground. She was so nice every day. You could tell she enjoys people. She had some great tips to make our stay unforgettable. Thank you. Also, the staff at Curry Village and Yosemite Village markets were very nice. The only big complaint is why do people feel the need to drive with their high beam headlights on in the campgrounds? There were trucks parked on opposite sides of our site. One guy had his lights on probably every 2 hours pointed at our tent. The other lit up our site the whole time we were eating dinner. They are short staffed here, so we as good stewards need to keep the park clean.

Beautiful welcome center that had a small shop and a rangers desk for questions, but that was about it. I was surprised that a park this large and popular didn't have a theater with a film presentation. They did have a video playing in the lobby, but it was so busy you couldn't hear it. The building itself was beautiful with floor to ceiling windows showcasing the mountains. The cafe was right around the corner and we enjoyed it.

Wonderful park. You can camp for a nicer and more complete experience. They have a restaurant and store in case you feel hungry. They have parking lots for daily visitors and parking lots for campers. There are public restrooms that are well maintained and there are also parts of the river where you can get in or fish. Overall a beautiful place to visit.
