My husband and his parents took me to lunch and dessert today to celebrate my 33rd birthday earlier this weekend. After eating in Jack London Square, we found this bakery and dropped in for a cupcake. Big mistake - we should have just walked to the Sunday Farmer's Market and enjoyed a sweet over at the booths set up there. Very welcoming people at the Market!
I ended up just ordering a caramel square, my husband had a chocolate macaroon, and his parents each had a cupcake. All without a smile or greeting from the girl working. She did take the time to tell us it wasn't actually her day to work (oh, so you don't want to be here? Yeah, we got that from your attitude.)
My husband had changed his mind from ordering nothing to getting the macaroon, and when he told her this, she ignored him (only a couple feet away, she heard him), so he reached his hand into the jar to get one, pulled it out, and then she looked up and tapped the tongs on the table. If you want to ensure that they will have the cake that you want, be sure to order online 48 hours before. Even early on a weekend morning, the cake selection is slim and they had already sold out of...
Read moreUsed to live Miette. Always bought items every week at the Ferry Building when I worked in SF. They were always high priced but worth it. No longer. I was very disappointed in the items I purchased from the Oakland location. Macarons were doughy with no flavor. No crisp shell at all, just soft, doughy mush. They didn't have any lemon tartlets and the Scharffenberger chocolate ones were meh. Such a shame to see the quality...
