Mills Hoagie and Deli in East Oakland on MacArthur. I ordered both the pastrami and original cheesesteak. First, I love cheesesteaks. Growing up in eastern Pennsylvania they were a cornerstone. Having had more than my lions share of them I may be a bit of a tough judge. The ingredients included to be chunked up meat on both my pastrami and cheesesteak hoagie not really giving it the classic cheesesteak texture. Pastrami being way to heavily salted. And the cheese steak kinda reminded me of a big Mac salad. The Bread was by far the best thing about it soft delightful. I found spots of it were a bit more dry than others. They did use the correct amount of meat to cheese. All in all not my favorite. But if you know them and live in the area it seems like a small family owned shop. And I support all of that. I know.... They take a hit on atmosphere but let me explain..... This little locally known spot may have the best sandwiches 🥪😜 in the bay! And I'm not kidding. I first came here when I was 15 and nothing has changed, the consistency is overwhelming. The cheese steaks ranged supreme here, real 🍖 meat, not that shaved frozen stuff. You'll see patrons leaving with 4, or 5 this is serious business 😂, They have a pastrami also that I believe will rival any you get in New York, Fry's always nice 👍 to order. Only thing is the dining room hasn't been updated since the 90s , practically same table and chairs. Some people might find it a little rough but for me it's like coming home. Very few businesses have survived in Oakland this long. They even have a News post from the 70s giving thanks to the founder. And yeah it's in a rough neighborhood but to get to the good food that's where you gotta go😂👍 good job guys!! I'll be back on Friday for another, and don't forget...

I've been coming here for years and honestly I walk away fully satisfied everytime!

The steak hoagies here are so full of meat and add ons are affordable! I wish you got a little more fries with the combo but it's good!

Seems like the service has improved since the last time of us being here.

And the restaurant could use a slight face lift but with the cost of everything these days, we're cool with the hole in the wall look!

I would recommend they change their fry grease... Possibly get a POS for folks to use a debit card... And if they started a Doordash, they would really make a killing outside of how well they are already doing, but other than that 5 stars!
