Just moved to the area and we are absolutely elated that we found this place so early! I absolutely love the entrance that they created - it feels like a pathway into a mythical spring. Further inside, the dining area is decorated like a hut and feels so cozy.

The service is fantastic. Very attentive and humorous! Although it is controversial for some, I appreciate the vaccine requirement by the staff.

The dishes came out in a logical and appetizing order. We started with Tom Yum, it felt a lot more home style than most places and had a pleasantly comforting sour bite that was not overwhelming (although I do love intense sour).

There is a spicy green bean dish called Pad Kra Prow that blew my socks off - it was perfectly spicy for our table of three, with firm but precisely cooked beans and a pork that complemented the veggies. Of course, we got Pad Thai that dove back into slightly sour and satiated our mutual desires. Our last dish was Kaeng Kae Wan, a green curry which again repeated the cycle with a touch of spice that was oh-so-smooth. Washed everything down with a few Thai drinks.

Really curious what they used the back area for on the way to the restroom, though. They had nice leather chairs back there, perhaps a lounge at one point?

I know for sure we will bring many a-friends and...

I've been having a rotten time trying to visit the Old Weang Ping. For me it's a 15-20 minute walk each way. About 30% of the time they're not open during their posted hours. I've been calling in advance and the phone just hangs up on me after a ring or two each time for the past few months. Today after three calls from my cell phone, I tried from my school desk phone and they answered! I went and told the lady there and she said that they didn't hang up on me. I called from my phone and heard it ring in the restaurant and told the lady that was my number and her eyes rolled. I just left and plan never to return. Don't know what's up. I've always been polite, tipped, never anything other than yes please and no thank you. Not sure what's up but I'm done with them. The food is good. But not worth wasting an entire lunch break without getting lunch each time or being hung up on every time I call...

This Thai restaurant has been over-rated. The food is merely average. The menus now available on line are not complete. They have Kai Pad with your choice of Chicken, Pork, Duck etc. We chose the duck and the serving included only a small portion of duck. We also had the Eggplant with Tofu. Both of these dishes are available and are better at the Thai Restaurants in Marin. That said, for average food quality this place would have gotten three stars. But, when we made reservation they didn't say they do not take credit cards. They also served our main dishes immediately after the appetizer failing to allow us to finish the appetizer (which is something only the lowest caliber of Chinese restaurant has ever done to us). They also entirely forgot my drink order. Now I just can't consider this even good, let...

With the semblance of a Thai backpacker outpost, the wood finishes, tropical garden entry and intimate booth seating make for a truly unique dining experience in Oakland. An elderly mom-and-pop duo serve home style Thai cooking — smaller portioned and very reasonably priced, making it perfect for sharing multiple dishes family-style. Roti (crispy fried flatbread with fragrant curry dipping sauce), an excellent starter. Green Papaya Salad, crisp, refreshing and just the right amount of funk from fish sauce. Pineapple Duck Curry from the daily specials, exactly as described — tasty but not the best. Pad See Ew (with choice of protein), pretty standard. While dishes may not change your world, the setting makes for a unique dining experience worth driving for. Cash only.

I've lived in the area for almost 20 years and have eaten in and plenty of takeout, so I'm not sure what people mean when they say new ownership. The fantastic couple (and their daughter?) run things and do s great job. The food has gotten better over the years, but be sure to order with a spicy level as it won't be as flavorful when 'mild/not spicy' (you shouldn't be eating Thai if you can't handle some heat). Eating in is a great experience as from when you approach to when you leave the atmosphere, setting, and service are all very Thai. We joked and laughed with the older male owner and happily ate everything served. Highly recommend for the atmosphere, food and service.

Ordered to go (phone, in person pick up). Satay chicken quality is amazing, with rich peanut sauce. Pad see ew and pineapple fried rice also cooked very well. Portion size reasonable. Pricing is reasonable. Update: added video, and tried dine in. Khao Soi is rich in flavor and is recommended (5/5). Fried Whole Fish is well made , with lots of fruits on top (4/5). Interior design of restaurant is cute ; as it is remodeled from an old home. Free street parking is easy.
