I have been waiting for Poppy Bagels on Telegraph Avenue to open since August of 2022. Today was the first chance I have had to try their bagels. I stood I a line 10+ deep to order an Onion Bagel with whitefish. I also purchased an orange juice. The total was $17. I left a 25% tip. The staff seemed friendly and told me my order would be ready in about 25 minutes. The place was really busy and I thought the wait would be reasonable. I stood aside and waited and not 5 minutes later my order was ready. I thought "okay that was fast" but took my order and left. What a mistake that was. The bagel was served open face. I took half and bit into the bagel with white fish on top. It was like trying to tear leather with your teeth. The whitefish was bitter and salty. I ate one half of the bagel and now some 35 minutes later my stomach is upset. I will be honest. I was not expecting this. I honestly thought poppy bagels would live up to all the hype I had read and heard over the last 7 months. Instead I have had an experience that was so terrible I will never return. Maybe that was the point, I don't know. What I do know is poppy's bagels are the worst I...
Read moreAlthough Poppy’s does have excellent bagels and a unique selection of sandwiches, I can only give it 3 stars because the order I received was not what I requested when I ordered online. Two times, I’ve ordered the green garden sandwich and chosen everything as my bagel choice, and both times, I watched my bagel being made on a different bagel type, with the bagel type I requested clearly being available. I don’t understand why there’s a place for us to enter our preferences if a bagel is going to be chosen for you. I brought this up to someone who worked there the first time it happened, and she just kind of dismissed it, so I did too. But now that it’s happened a second time, I feel the need to bring it up so Poppy’s will hopefully honor their paying customers’ requests when they have the means to do so. It’s understandable if they have to use an alternate bagel type if they’re out of a certain bagel, but it’s not acceptable when you have the requested bagel in stock at the time the bagel...
Read moreThis bagel shop is such a vibe! I came by once after visiting the Temescal Library with my baby and saw a sign saying the store was closed.
Fast forward to today, after taking my little nugget to the library for baby bounce I decided to walk around to grab food to go. I was so excited to see Poppy Bagel’s was open again. I got the Lox and a fresh squeeze oj. Both were amazinggggg.
I was even offered a baby bagel for my 6 month old. What a sweet gesture. I’ve never seen that before anywhere else. Dog treats? Yes. Baby treats? No.
The decor is so stinking cute. I especially love their speckled stools.
I can’t wait to come back and try the fermented celery soda and the other bagel sandos.
Lox was delish. Lemon wedge to juice was yum. Fresh dill and all the fixings were great too. Their cream cheese tasted homemade, but I’m not sure if they make it in house. I’ll have to look. It didn’t taste like your average...
