Husband used to go here multiple times a month with coworkers pre-pandemic for years. Said at times the service could be slow but always enjoyed the food and wide selection of beers. I had gone twice before this evening and really liked my food. Tonight was a bit of a rough experience. Our waitress was very nice and a bit stressed out because the kitchen was backed up...it took 45 minutes for our food to come out. This is what we ordered:
general tsos shrimp wings: awesome grilled chicken Pittsburgh salad: decent firecracker fish: good, but not as good as pre-remodel - smaller portion, didn't seem like Mancini's bun like it used to be crab bisque: laughable. I included a picture because words don't do it justice. Had the consistency of oatmeal. I generally don't complain about things but I was honestly so close to sending this back or asking to have it taken off the bill.
If you're the kind of person who finds a dish you like and always gets the same exact thing, you'll probably be fine as long as you're willing to wait for your food. However I am honestly scared to go back and try something new after this experience. Kept the 3 stars because the beer selection is still great, the waitress was busting her butt, and the shrimp was yummy. We agreed we will most likely never return to Carnivores unless someone invites us to go, and even then we will try to suggest...
Read moreStopped for lunch at approximately 12:30 on a Saturday. The atmosphere is that of a sports bar, with plenty of choices of beer on tap and single bottle and cans in a wall of coolers. After our our choice of seating (all high tables) and a few booths, no low tables. All seating, including the bar were very padded and comfortable. Jonah, our server, was excellent. He was extremely attentive to our orders and offered a list of beer varieties that they offered on tap. We declined and ordered sandwiches for lunch, my son ordered the cheesesteak hoagie, my wife ordered the Buffalo shrimp po boy, and I opted for the reuben sandwich. All included fresh Cut Fries, that would give the Potato Patch at Kennywood , a run for the money. The kitchen was on it's "A" game, when our orders arrived in 10 minutes to our table piping hot and on point. This was our very first time we stopped by and all were very impressed with the staffing and food. (We are not locals), we will make a stop next time we're passing thru. In fact, I think we'll plan to stop in the next few weeks! Only draw back is, if your not a fan of high table seating, and because this place is in a shared strip mall with other businesses (subway, pizzaria, and others) parking could be a challenge. It's definitely worth a stop, the food and beer varieties does not...
Read moreI was really disappointed with this visit to carnivores. I ordered the same thing that I got last time I was here a few years ago. The CarlBurger. The first time I got it, it was a big thick juicy burger with a dripping egg on top. It was delicious. This time, the waiter asked how I wanted it done and I said medium/medium well. The burger I received was extremely well done as was the egg. The egg was completely fried, no more yoke left. The whole burger was so dry I had to ask for mayonnaise just to try to get it down. I was really disappointed. This is definitely a nice place to get together after work with your friends especially if you like beer. One of my friends, we are in our mid 50s, asked for a hot toddy. The waiter said "a what"? She repeated it and he said he had never heard of it before. Really? The waiter was very attentive. This is not a complaint against him because all waiters do it now but I hate when they say " do you want any change? " I find that very irritating. If I wanted you to keep the change I would hand you my bill with my cash and say you can keep the change. I had to say yes and he brought back my bills but not my coins lol. I did not complain at the time about my burger because I have friends in the restaurant business and they said that chefs absolutely hate when somebody sends...
