Bullseye Burgers & Chicken — Restaurant in Oakwood

I ordered the Bullseye burger and the panko shrimp sandwich, with a meal combo (fries and a fountain drink). The Bullseye is a big hamburger, a double cheeseburger (cheese on top of each pattie) with strips of bacon (cooked medium) and pickles and red onion, with their special "BE sauce". The panko shrimp sandwich is butterfly filet shrimp (no tails) fried with a panko breading, and I went with the garlic aioli sauce. Both sandwich and burger came on toasted buns that held together well, especially as I finished off the burger. The menu says the panko shrimp sandwich is "Crispy Shrimp with Coleslaw on The Bun," which I interpreted to mean the slaw was on the sandwich, but it's on the side. Still, I did add it to the sandwich and enjoyed that variation, too. Their slaw is cabbage and carrot, julienne, with a sweet and more juicy mayo (not thick, more fluid). The sandwich wasn't fireworks and kitchensink, just shrimp and sauce (and slaw) but its simplicity delivers the flavor of the shrimp right to your satisfaction. The garlic aioli wasn't overpowering, so I wouldn't worry about having a garlic overload. The burger was delicious, and they cooked it medium well. The American cheese melted just right and didn't burn or goo up everything. The sauce will run and drip, so consider this a juicy burger and plan accordingly. I hovered the burger over the fries so they could absorb some of the love. Speaking of the fries, they were done just right (for me): not a thick cut, not julienne, not crinkle, with a nice crisp bite to them. Not chewy. not hard. They gave me a tiny plastic tub with about a tablespoon and a quarter of ketchup, which might not be enough for some people. I rationed. They only have fountain drinks, Coke products. No tea that's not in a bottle. I'm intrigued by their "breakfast" burger (patty with a fried egg) and the Georgian (pepper jack, jalapeno and BBQ sauce), so there's a reason to return. So far, though, my quest to find an independent burger joint that puts peanut butter on the burger continues (with only one place so far found) . . . The restroom was impeccably clean, and the small dining area was nice, cozy and overseen by a very large television that was showcasing some college sports whatever, but it probably changes from time to time. Constant ingredient changes and shifting hours have made this place increasingly frustrating. Don’t bother showing up after 8:30—even though they’re open until 9—because they won’t serve you unless you “guarantee you’ll be there in 20 minutes.” I go 2–3 times a week, and they still let the phone ring 15 times without answering.

Turns out, the phone was working—they just didn’t want to take the order. When I came in and asked, they said the grill wasn’t working. But honestly, it felt like they had cleaned up early and didn’t want to deal with any more customers—especially considering past experiences where they told me to make sure I’d arrive within 20 minutes. They ignored the phone because they had already started shutting down. And when I showed up to ask what happened, they admitted the grill “wasn’t working” and they “didn’t want to answer.”

If you’re not going to take orders, at least communicate. Don’t just let the phone ring and leave loyal customers hanging. There’s zero customer service. All they said was, “All I can say is sorry.”

The food is good, but that’s not enough anymore. I’m done...

10/6/22: First visit, and pleasantly surprised! Great burgers, fries, and onion rings. Everything is fresh and made to order, they even came out and checked on us to see how everything was. Very clean establishment. We will definitely be back and also spread the word. A great find!

Update: 3 days later on 10/9/22, we made another visit here, since we were so impressed on our first visit. This is the kind of burger that you go home and think about after you've had it! We were not disappointed! The food was excellent again, the restaurant was extremely clean, and the service was impeccable. Fresh ingredients, great flavors, and a great selection. We have decided that this is now our 'go-to' burger place! Keep up the great work!
