Waffle House — Restaurant in Oakwood

I hate giving these kind of ratings, bc I know how it can hurt the business of a restaurant in particular, and the servers and other cooks who work here don't deserve to suffer for the actions of one thoughtless employee. BUT. When that one employee is risking the safety and health of the customers, something has to be done. And I tried to do this the private way, but I guess even local governments are all about money these days, and not so much interested in doing what's best for the people anymore. There is a particular cook at this location. I didn't get his name, and he wasn't unfriendly in any way. But, when he takes his break, he blows his nose the way my grandfather used to do - no napkin, just letting it out wherever he is, outside. On my recent visit, this happened to be on the sidewalk entrance to the restaurant during his break. He apparently got it on his shirt, and another man (a customer) helped him find it on his way to his car. Then, this cook came back inside, got a few napkins (from a dispenser at a table where customers eat btw), went back outside to finish the job he couldn't complete the old fashioned way, and THEN WALKED DIRECTLY BACK TO THE GRILL. He touched MANY items that customers put their mouths directly on and surfaces that hold food, first the to-go cups, then the drink areas, and THEN he went to the cooking area again and PUT GLOVES ON. Now, he did wear these gloves to cook, so he probably decreased the risk of his snot getting on the food directly, but not by much, bc he still put the gloves on with those same unwashed, snot-infested hands. And I don't know how long he'd been at work, so I can't say that what I witnessed was the first time he'd taken a break and done that same activity, maybe with more success... or less. But I'm willing to bet that he didn't wash his hands after those breaks either. Additionally, as if that's not bad enough, the food simply wasn't cooked well. Now I will not blame this only on this cook, bc I have recently ordered takeout from this restaurant a few weeks prior, and the food was inedible then as well. So I don't know that the bad food is all on this cook. But the unacceptable and unsanitary habits I witnessed are his responsibility alone. He was definitely old enough to know better, but I don't think he understands how much danger he's putting customers in with these actions... I really hope management sees this before someone gets really sick and figures out it was from this restaurant and this cook. I would steer clear for a while until this...

I just walked in there and sat at the bar area at a dirty spot towards the end which is fine, its a Waffle House. I sat there because it was away from the other people and I try to not to get in other peoples space out of respect. I understand that sitting in a spot the hasnt been cleaned up yet is annoying to the servers, Ive been in the food industry for 20 years I get it. The server totally put me on blast and For everyone to hear told the guy next to me” Thank you for not sitting in a dirty spot!” For all to hear including I guess the floor manager who did nothing about it. I even apologized and the server just looked at me. So I just got up and left. Im not going to eat there if Im not welcome. Ive been going to Waffle House for years, I keep to myself, I eat , pay, tip and leave. Im done with Waffle House there are plenty of other places to eat breakfast, I only went there because the service was always great but if you are going to belittle people in front of everyone for no reason, whats the point of even going. Well been coming every Sunday for probably a year now and always tip 15 to 20 dollars each time which is pretty good for a 30 dollar bill I think ..this Sunday morning like all the others ordered the same thing as usual but did not get what I ordered and it frustrated Jericka instead of just offering to make it right because she did not read the order off right to the cook she decides to say oh you want more bacon lol...umm no... did I order more bacon? Nope just wanted a simple hashbrown bowl with crispy bacon ..not sure what we did wrong as customers but we ended up leaving without eating ..not a good waitress at all ....please bring back the normal waitresses that will repeat your order correct instead of how she wants to...sorry my crispy bacon was worth losing your 20 dollar tip and having a happy local customer!!!!
