Read moreDecided to take my wife here for a late dinner. Normally we would avoid restaurants that serve spicy food, but took a chance anyway. We arrived shortly before 7 pm on Sunday night and were seated right away. The restaurant was not packed, but the noise level was a little above what we would tolerate for a nice quiet meal together; however, we decided to try anyway and the noise died down after a short time. The music was pleasant and enjoyable, at a comfortable level. We were greeted by the waitress, Nina, after a couple minutes who took our drink order and then returned with recommendations. We both had a side salad and I ordered my Caesar without croutons. When I received the salad and started eating, I noticed it had an abundance of croutons and instead of complaining, just removed them and gave them to my wife. My wife ordered the French Market Pasta, and I, the Pasta Chicken Louisianne. Both arrived immediately after finishing our salads, which I would have preferred to wait a couple minutes before starting the main meal. Her meal had no spice, which was good and what the waitress stated, and the serving size was more than adequate, as she needed to wait a bit before finishing. Mine on the other hand seemed a bit less than hers, but cost less and had just enough spice to straddle the line between flavorful and too spicy. Both meals were very good. After waiting a while, we decided to order the Banana Creme Brulee, which was very small, but extremely good. All in all, we really enjoyed ourselves. The staff were all very cordial and offering a military discount didn't hurt. The only recommendations I would make would be to ditch the kiddie cups and replace them with adult size drinking cups, as I drink a lot of soda and the waitress had to make five trips, just for my refills and three for my wife's. Second, is to wait a couple minutes before bringing the main meal, so patrons can have some time to digest the salad, or appetizers, before starting the main course. People like ourselves don't like to feel rushed, as we are retired and prefer to move at...
Read moreIn the Ocala area to visit family on Friday night, and ended up getting hungry, so we decided to go to Harry's for the 1st time since they have good reviews for seafood. Parking was a bit tough due to it being date night, but we found a convenient spot across the park for electric vehicles which was perfect since we have one.
We made a reservation on the drive over just in case it was crowded and ended up getting seated at a high table 5 minutes after arriving. The waitress, Elizabeth, was friendly and efficient. The pre-appetizer bread was warm and soft with an excellent spiced garlic butter on the side. We ordered fried calamari as an appetizer and it came with an interesting thousand island type sauce on the side. Texture was excellent - crunchy and soft with a spicy bite. My husband ate the fried green beans that were also mixed in with it. The main course was the bourbon glazed salmon (for my husband) and the scallops (for me). We both had smashed potatoes as our chosen side dish and my husband also got fries. The food was ready in about 20 minutes which was expected since the place was busy (about 5 couples / groups dining in the main area and about 6 people at the bar). The scallops were well-cooked and soft. Very tasty and not gamey or fishy at all (which is good). My husband's salmon was also good, maybe a bit on the dry overcooked side, but that's better than undercooked for sure. We had Pellegrino selter water as our beverage of choice since we were getting up early the next day and couldn't drink. It cost about $85 for the whole meal (very affordable) before leaving a generous tip for the customer service.
Waitstaff were very accommodating and polite, overall service was 11 out of 10. The food was 9 out of 10. The place itself was closer to 8 out of 10 since the bathrooms were not very clean, the floors were a bit sticky, and we had one appetizer plate that still had a hard piece of cheese on the bottom of it (we didn't order anything with cheese!). This was an interesting first experience.
Highly recommend this restaurant for...
