Our son turns 7 this year and we've been in Ocean City for every one of his birthdays and made it a tradition to go to Uncle Bill's for his birthday for the last 5 years. The staff is ALWAYS friendly and accommodating when we ask for a candle in his pancakes and they sing to him. Always make us feel special. This is a popular place and there is always a wait but it goes fast and you can hang out outside and enjoy yourself visiting while you wait. I've also been coming to Uncle Bills for many years before the birthday tradition and always had a nice time. This year we have our first.... i don't even want to say complaint because its not really a complaint... Anyway. We did not bother to look at prices because we've been doing this for years. We got the check and for 4 adults and 4 kids,,,, $146.. $176 with tip since we always tip 20%. I looked at the menu. I got the greek omelet with ham.. $12.75 ! that seems really steep. $2.50 for a small cup of coffee ( I know it's free refills but I only drink one and then drink water) I understand you you use fine ingredients and you have to pay your staff, i get that. But it seems like a big price jump in the last year or so. Most people who go there look 'well-to-do' and probably don't bat an eye at this, but there is the other group of people who can't throw a credit card at every whim. I saw an "owner response" to a review saying "I know everyone is not a fan of our prices".... who would be a fan of high prices? "Oh, look honey, they raised their prices, lets eat there" :)
Based on this experience and the fact that this and many other established names are raising their prices and hoping to keep their customer base, we will not be back to places like Uncle Bill's and Manco's who raise their prices when they know they are a household name and can still make bank because people are on vacation-
People, try other options and you will be surprised. Unless of course you throw a credit card at every whim.
Uncle Bill''s... think of the little guy instead of piling it on for a bigger house or bigger boat. We'd love to come back, but not with this trend.
This is a reply to the owners reply- can’t give you another try, we can’t afford it.
You make it sound like you are struggling to stay afloat while you enjoy big house, big boat extravagant life- and rightfully so, you earned it. Just not from common folks like us anymore.
Also, I’m not upset by your prices. Disappointed. Justifying high prices doesn’t make them cheaper or earn...
Read moreAvoid this place unless you'd prefer to be treated with respect. After ordering an omelette that was advertised as coming with peppers and not advertised as coming with spinach, it was made and served with both, which I didn't realize until I was about 75% of the way through my meal. Unfortunately I had recently undergone abdominal surgery and had been advised by my surgeon to specifically avoid foods like peppers and spinach, which prompted my request to the server to not have either included in my meal. But sure enough, my meal came with both, which I didn't realize until I was almost completely finished with my breakfast. When we went up to to pay our check and voice our complaint about the mistake, we ended up getting blamed by the manager for not noticing the server's mistake sooner and raising the mistake with her sooner so that she could fix it. This to me seemed like the very definition of blaming the victim/customer; and sure enough, I got sick as a result of this mistake. And after getting sick, I went back to the restuarant and asked for our money back that my wife had paid. AND once again, the manager gave ME a hard time and blamed us for not raising the issue sooner with the server, rather than just apologize and willingly give us our money back. We had been going to Uncle BIll Bill's for 10+ years without ever complaining about a single meal and that was made clear to the manager who conitnued to just be indiferent to the fact that the server's mistake made me sick. We understand that mistakes happen, but ordering a meal with no peppers is a pretty common request, so this should not have been difficult and the manager could have reacted with some empathy instead...
Read moreThe place was ok. Friendly staff, although our waitress was super busy, it seems she had more tables than the rest of the waitress. We had to called her a couple of times for coffee refill, an issue with the home fries being cold and she got them replaced right away. The food was ok, kind of a dinner food but pricer. I went with something safe and got eggs with sausage, toast and home fries, and since this was a pancake house, I order a side of short stack of 2 pancakes for $7.00 which I thought it was way pricey until I saw the size of them. Huge. Not much flavor on the sausage or the fries, eggs were not as hot as you would think, but still edible, I was feeding my son at the same time I was eating, so I'm going to give this one another chance. Home fries were cold and had to be replaced, but the pancakes I must say were very good. They were very tasty. I should've order either the apple pancakes or the waffles, which the reviews were good. Coffee was ok, nothing spectacular. Had to asked the waitress for a refill almost at the end of my meal since she was too busy with the other tables. Understandable. Lover had the corned-beef hash and eggs, and he liked it. Kiddo had eggs and toast, all ok. I'll give this place another chance to wow me with their variety of pancakes, which sounded very inviting. The prices are a bit higher, but nothing crazy. Locals do love this place though, so...
