Stars Drive-in — Restaurant in Odessa

It’s Friday, 5:30 p.m. I am not cooking dinner. The week has been long and I am tired. Who wants a cheese burger and fries?! Me! I pass Stars Drive-in on my way to and from work and it beckons me with the sweet siren song of burgers and fries like I used to get from the diners of my youth. One summer, I waitressed at a dinner that had a grill just for the burgers. I was a terrible waitress but I stuck it out to get my free meal every evening after dinner rush. This isn’t a $15 gourmet burger and foo-foo fries meal. It’s a serious burger and fries meal for people who want to eat where they want to eat and not have to sit in a restaurant with other people. And it’s really good food. No pretensions. No big ego. No “experience” dining. I just wish the dude from the commercials was there, waving a spatula, yelling BIT BY HUNGER? CALL...

Normally I go out of my way to give good reviews but too many bad experiences at this location has prompted me to leave a poor review. The car hops take the change often without asking and every other time they ask to keep the change. On one visit a drink purchase resulted in over $10 in change. The car hop asked if I wanted my change. Yes I wanted my change! I guess I am a cheap tipper :( I want them to give me my change every time. I refrain from giving tips because of this rude habit. Now if I do not have the exact change for my purchase I will not eat here. I love Stars,...
