This morning was my 1st time to visit Masa Bakery. I Google searched bakery’s in Odessa and Masa Bakery popped up. As I pull up I 1st encounter the lack of parking spots. I jump the curb with my truck and parked. As I approached the entrance, I noticed a Best Bakery 2024 or 2025 sign on the door, that gave me a good feeling. As I walked in I was greeted by the lady at the counter and the smell was INCREDIBLE. I noticed I was the only customer in there which seemed odd, I expected to see more people based on the cars parked outside. I was overall pleased with the interior decor and the warm feeling I got as I walked in.
I grabbed an aluminum round tray and a set of tongs. I selected a few sugar cookies and as I started looking at the other pastries, I see what looked like a red ball with coconut sprinkled on it or something like that.
As I looked at them closer I notice something crawling on one of them. It was a COCKROACH, a small one, and it was crawling over the pastry. I opened the door and grabbed it with the tongs and took it to the counter and set it down. I told the lady there was a roach on the pastry and she just picked it up with another set of tongs and took it to the back.
My expectations were shot, I walked back to the pastry case and was going to put the sugar cookies back but couldn’t due to the angle of the shelving. So I turned and took the tray with cookies to the counter and laid it down and nicely said thank you and turned and walked out.
The owner was behind the counter this entire time, he was preparing something as the lady and I went through this ordeal, neither the owner or the lady at the counter said 1 word to me after she returned from the back. Not an I’m so sorry, an apology, or anything. They stayed silent and just looked at me as I turned and walked out.
I give fair reviews of “my” personal experiences and nothing else. I share what I experience for others to review and I felt this review was necessary.
This is in no way spiteful or to hurt the business, but to share my experience and let others including the owners know what happened in their establishment.
I was disappointed with my experience because I had high hopes and was excited to try their products. I was also disappointed that nothing was said and that they both let me walk out without saying anything to me, I wasn’t even rude or loud. I was just letting them know and I pulled that pastry out so the COCKROACH wouldn’t get away and they could verify what I saw.
If I would have just told them I saw a cockroach and then they went to look, it would have probably been gone.
For what it’s worth, this is “my” honest review of my 1st experience at...
Read moreAnyone that gave less than 4 stars for this place is an absolute uncultured hater and has no working taste buds! This place was perfect for my family & I, especially because every other place in Odessa/Midland has bland, dry, hard, and old tasting bread. MASA has different options for bread every day. Sometimes more on some days than others, but every time I’ve gone their staff is friendly, and helpful. They are super sweet, the place is clean, and welcoming. I highly recommend them for any occasion, they even sell mexican wedding cookies and hojarascas. I know the bread last about 3 days with a fresh taste and texture… I would think it lasts longer but we ate it and weren’t trying to find out how long it takes to go bad lol. We come from a big city, have traveled to different cities in Mexico and have lived in different states including California, so I feel like we know enough about Mexican breads and how they compare to others. But don’t just trust me, check it out...
Read moreI'm not sure where to start but everything about this place feels like a money-grab. It leaves me with a bad feeling like I'm getting ripped off every time I go. It's not traditional but it's not modern. It's not sweet but it's not terrible. There aren't really any unique or special items besides weekend lunch and sandwich specials. The quality is bare minimum. It's overpriced for what you get. Then there's something fishy about the people there like they want to keep some kind of secret or like there's something they don't want to tell you about their bread. There isn't much space to sit inside. They're closed Saturday instead of Wednesday. It seems that they could probably deliver a better product but they don't. It's okay for the office or something but otherwise I couldn't really recommend it over any other place selling the Mexican-style...
