Captain D's has won me over, especially this particular location, which has become a favorite since my last review two years ago. While I initially ranked it slightly below Long John Silver's, my opinion has shifted. In the past, I'd suggest bringing a coupon for a hefty discount, but their coupon game has changed. Now, it's a bit hit or miss, but fear not – they've introduced in-store specials and value deals that match up well.
Captain D's is heavily promoting a new app, something I wished for in my previous review. I'll delve into it soon and update you on what I discover. Granted, fast-food apps don't always impress right off the bat, but here's hoping Captain D's breaks the trend.
This spot is an exception among fast-food joints; I actually prefer dining in. Fried fish doesn't travel well, and the dining experience here is consistently enjoyable, even when flying solo. It's almost a guarantee that I'll strike up a friendly conversation with an elderly diner – there's a comforting, welcoming vibe that makes patrons of all ages feel at home.
When I first reviewed this place during the pandemic, staffing issues affected their hours, but those seem to be sorted now. The staff is friendly, and the dining area is well-maintained.
The star of any meal here remains the hush puppies. They're some of the best I've ever had – crispy outside, soft and light inside, with delicate bits of onions throughout. While I'm not a huge fan of their coleslaw (Long John Silver's takes the cake for me), that's just a personal preference.
I spent my high school years being a rowdy, less-than-ideal customer of the long-gone Pizza Hut across the road from this Captain D's. Now, I find myself praising how peaceful and welcoming this place is, especially to older diners like myself. Give it a shot; you might be...
Read moreThe food was really fresh and high quality. The chicken was tender and cooked well, the shrimp had a great seasoning but wasn't over cooked, and the fish was light and flakey without being greasy. The okra was well fried and the coleslaw wasn't too wet or bland.
The atmosphere is casual and accommodates well for families or couples looking for a casual dinner. There is a wide assortment of food options, including fried, grilled, and blackened preparations of fish. There are also are dessert and side options of all varieties, and multiple dipping sauces to choose from.
The staff are knowledgeable with great recommendations and information about the menu, and help make creating your platter catered to your preferences an easy task.
The building is clean and well lit, and from the experience eating inside I believe that it's from the staff working together to keep the place clean and comfortable. We watched multiple staff members working together to ensure everything was stocked and cleaned for customers, while also checking on tables to make sure no one needed anything. This was during a busy dinner rush, and there were no piles of trash or trays anywhere, unlike most restaurants.
Overall, I definitely recommend you try this out if you're looking for some seafood or quality chicken with homestyle sides. This is basically if you took their competitors and cooked the food...
Read moreMissing half my meal, so I called got management, told them I was missing items. She knew exactly what I was missing. When I told her I would be back to have them remake my meal, she told me no I could come pick up items that were missing. I said I drove 10 mins there and would return my sandwich so I could have a fresh one to eat with my missing Mac & cheese and hush puppies. She said No. She had been working 12 hrs and only 3 people there and she would call the general manager and call me back to see what they wanted to do.. I get it no one wants to work and the ones that are working are stressed. But if I'm paying for a meal I should be able to get the whole meal I ordered at the same time so it can be fresh and not try n eat a 20 to 30 min old sandwich because of your mistake. Will not be going back. Was treated rude and the food that I did get...
