I want to start by saying we have never had a bad walk-in meal at City but over the last 2 years or so Large Take Out orders have been increasingly unsatisfactory. For a Mother's Day lunch (2022) I ordered a 14-16 Party pack with Pulled Pork and Brisket, Corn Pudding and Mac & Cheese. I also got extra Turkey, Cornbread, Potato Salad & Hushpuppies. All told order was about $200. Mac & Cheese was very good and the Potato Salad and Corn Pudding were OK. Pulled pork was dry and cold and the Brisket was half Fat and not really edible. They forgot the Turkey and crushed the Cornbread because they put it under everything else. 12 of the 18 buns were in a package and were fine but 6 were wrapped in plastic and hard as rock. One of the three orders of hushpuppies were really good but the other two orders where all dry and broken (not sure how that could happen). I called about the Turkey and Cornbread and was instantly given an account credit as I could not return to the store. While this was nice I would have preferred the order be filled than to get a credit for something I didn't get. In about the last year or so I have ordered pretty big Party Pack orders, from different Locations, 4 times and each time is worse than the time before. I realize the challenges restaurants have experienced over the last couple of years but until things improve I don't think I will be ordering out from City Barbeque, hopefully I can use the credit...

Fantastic experience. Lady and I were headed to Texas Roadhouse and we were immediately put-off by how insane the parking lot was. We were about ready to give up out of frustration and head home for leftovers when we spotted City Barbeque across the street. Very happy that we did. The cashier took one look at us and asked if it was our first time there, lol. Apparently we had a deer in headlights kind of expression on our faces as we entered. Should we wait to be seated, order at the counter and seat ourselves, will they bring the food to us or call out the order? Luckily, the cashier knew her job well and set us up patiently while we took our time deciding. She eve n asked us if we would like an explanation of the menu since it was our first visit. We accepted and she fired off the whole thing barney style in 30 seconds and we were good to go. Young lady working the register around 6pm 4/8/15 was very professional and friendly. Ya'll should give her a raise. Did I mention that the food was delicious and arrived quickly? Everything was juicy and tasted fresh. A HUGE deal with me. Dry, heat lamped BBQ will kill any positive experience for me in a second. Wasn't a problem at City. Going to make it a regular haunt of mine. Will be returning this weekend for Dad night with...

Today’s visit was to meet friends for conversation and lunch. Unfortunately an off day for the restaurant. Have been there many times before when visiting in the Newark area.

Staff seemed real disconnected today when I arrive 11:15 AM Sunday. When ordering I was never asked for my membership phone number. Than again it took the person five tries to understand and input the number.

Order of chicken wings turned out to be rubber so they were done better. But not as good as usual when they fall off the bone. Had to ask for the dipping sauce. The second order did not include pickles as the first one had. Mind you this was at a slow time before the Sunday noon rush.

My order of a kids size hush puppies turned out to be a large one which I was charged for.

I had a two item to go after the rush at which point I asked for a lean cut trimming of the two different meats. Initially inspection when I got them home shows the request was ignored.

However please do try the restaurant as I’ve had years of success there.

Place is old and not pretty but that makes it more a real bbq joint with the looks and...

TAKE THIS HOW YOU WILL! My 1st experience at City BBQ was not good ! We entered and instantly was pressured to start ordering ( we haven’t even read the menu yet !). Almost felt like we were an inconvenience to the guy taking our order. The food came out quickly but while we were waiting we were trying to find ONE clean table ( talk about impossible). Not a SINGLE clean table - it wasn’t even busy! I pulled out the baby wipes and wiped down a table just so I could sit and eat. While we were eating another couple came up to us and mentioned how it’s never clean in the restaurant and they usually do the same thing. I WORK IN FOOD SERVICE TOO … you don’t want a dirty area for your guests … this place has potential but someone needs to take leadership and make sure everything is stocked , tables are clean and guests feel welcomed! Not sure how this business is going to thrive. *im going to add photos *

My husband and I drive from the next county over just to eat here. The atmosphere is laid back and fun. The meats are always tender and the sides are all good. On our recent trip they had ran out of the sausage my husband usually gets, the cashier was kind enough to offer a small discount for the disappointment. The sweet tea is worth the drive alone. If it your first time visiting, it can be a little confusing. The basic breakdown of the menu is you can choose 1 meat and add sides, or do a 2 meat combo with sides. The menus is wrote on the wall behind the register where you order. Your food comes on an old cowboy style tin tray, and there's a roll of paper towels on each table. My favorite here is the brisket and cornbread. For sure a go-to on our list of places to eat when we get a chance to go out of town.

(I was writing a lengthy review and then my phone refreshed, so I lost it. Here is the summary.) This is my second time eating here, my favorite sides are the mac and cheese and cornbread. The sweet tea is some of the best restaurant tea I’ve ever had. I got the chicken tenders this visit and they are probably the best you can get around this area. I wanted to say thank you again to Cheyenne, a wonderful kind employee with cool pins in her hat, for the act of kindness. I went back up to the counter to order dessert and before I knew it, she swiped her card and said the banana pudding was on her. She was just being kind! I really appreciate it and it made my night. I love seeing kindness spread around. I will be paying it forward. Thank you again, and this is a nice place to be :)
