This is a fantastic and very authentic Chinese noodle restaurant. The drinks are unusually good, they have lots of real fruit inside, not just instant powder. There is a self-serve bar with pickled vegetables, chilies, and peanuts to add to your noodles. Some of the selections are better with rice (you have a choice between hand-pulled noodles, rice, and thinner bean thread style noodles) I had the braised beef noodle and it was delicious, with tender chunks of savory beef, green onions and Chinese vegetables. This is usually eaten with the pickled vegetables, which I heaped on (because they are both free and delicious, especially the bamboo shoots) The serving sizes are generous. Another time I enjoyed the combo of duck, chicken and pork with rice. The pork belly was just a little tough but tasty but the duck and chicken were perfect. I really enjoyed this one too. There are so many other interesting items I must try here.
I laughed a little about the lady ordering "chicken fingers" and getting chicken feet instead, as there is a picture in the menu, but if you haven't had them you should expand your palate and give them a try. If you have picky kids you better stick with the chicken skewers, those are really delicious and more conventional.
Anyhow this is the best new Chinese restaurant in OKC in a long while. Not fancy or expensive but it's like taking a trip to Asia without the...
Read moreI stopped by Big Boss Noodle after my sister recommended it, and I’m glad I got to try it out. I didn’t have noodles this time—instead, I had the crispy salted chicken, numbing pork trotters and tried a couple of their drinks.
One thing I really liked was their self-serve side dish bar, where you can grab pickles, kimchi, soy sauce, vinegar, chili paste, and more. It adds a lot of flavor and flexibility to the meal.
The crispy chicken was flavorful, though I hoped for a bit more of that strong basil aroma I’ve experienced in Taiwan. The pork trotters were good too, but I think they’d be even better if stewed a little longer for more tenderness.
I also tried the brown sugar fresh milk tea—the Earl Grey flavor was a bit too strong for my taste, as it kind of covered up the milk flavor. But the chestnut sago drink was a standout! I haven’t seen that anywhere else in OKC, and I’d definitely come back for it.
One thing that really stood out was the kindness of the staff. The lady who helped us was about my mom’s age—so sweet and gentle. Even though English isn’t her first language, she went out of her way to assist us. It made the whole visit feel even more welcoming.
Overall, tasty food, great service, and lots of potential. I’m looking forward to coming back and...
Read moreThe XL (6.99) boba is...huge. Like, ridiculously so. Like, I can't overstate my shocked silence when they first brought me my drink. It was so tall that I actually came back the next day to make sure I wasn't dreaming.
Food is good, atmosphere is great (would probably be a good place to study on weekdays), and service is very quick/polite. Most of the workers speak Chinese too so that's a bonus if I bring my family in the future! There's also a self-service sauce and topping bar (with kimchee and peanuts), which is really nice.
Day one order was their braised beef + hand pulled noodle soup, which was pretty good. Also got a mixed salad of cucumber, wood ear mushroom, and tofu skin. My friend got their mapo tofu + hand pulled noodles, but wasn't expecting it to also be in a soup. Instead of the hand pulled noodles, you can also choose between rice or vermicelli alongside your entree iirc.
Day two my friend and I split three apps, the scallion pancake (delish! but all scallion pancakes are delish), crispy chicken (good, would have liked some sort of house-made sauce), and spicy shrimp wontons (shrimp was plump, yum). And ofc more boba.
I personally enjoyed the day two spread more. But def come try it out! At least the...
