Hidden Gem Alert: Frankie's Italian Takes the Crown
I've driven by Frankie's on the south side of Britton Road just east of May Ave. countless times, each time vowing to stop in. But between inconvenient timing and familiar (read: boring) fallback options, Frankie's always seemed to get passed over.
Well, on a recent whim (and after two disappointing detours - a closed Papa Dio's and a pricier-than-desired Piatto), I finally walked through Frankie's doors. Let me tell you, it was love at first sight (well, more like first bite).
The cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and inviting music instantly put us at ease. We opted for the Pasta Sampler and the Chicken Diablo, and let me tell you, I've never regretted a decision more (in the best way possible). Why had I wasted so much time at generic chain restaurants? Oh, did I mention the bread? OMG! Lite and airy, flavorful rolls.
Frankie's blows Olive Garden out of the water. The sauce on the Chicken Diablo was pure magic, and my wife couldn't stop raving about the variety and flavors in the Pasta Sampler. We both left Frankie's vowing to return soon.
This hidden gem has officially become my go-to Italian spot. The food is incredible, the staff is welcoming, and the prices are fair (IMO, of course). If nothing else, supporting local businesses like Frankie's is something I always love to do. So, don’t take my word, just check them out.
Whether you're catching up with friends over a delicious meal or grabbing a quick pizza fix, Frankie's Italian is a fantastic choice.
Do yourself a favor and skip lines and long waits at the typical chain restaurants - Frankie's is...

They used to be previously known as Portofinos, located near Meridian on Reno. They had a huge building with huge decor and a huge menu. My Wife and I cried a little bit when they closed down since the food was great (rolls were amazing) and they treated you like family.
Now, during Covid times, they reopened under a more personable name, in a smaller building with a smaller menu. Quite frankly, (no pun intended) it was a wonderful surprise when my Wife and I discovered they reopened just by eating their rolls. (The baskets they used also gave them away.)
The new building provides a better atmosphere that is less spacious and more comforting. Sinatra is always crooning in the background. The family that runs the restaurant is absolutely nice and welcoming. The food speaks for itself.
We go at least once a week to enjoy their food and see how the family is doing. My wife always gets their penne pasta in marinara with meatballs. I always get their chicken tortellini in alla panna sauce. It is always cooked perfectly and full of flavor.
The wait staff is always friendly and on top of things. We never feel unwelcome here. They are always hospitable.
Lastly, we finish off our meal with a slice of their tiramisu, which is made in house. It is the...
Read moreThere is absolutely no way all these 5 star reviews are real and I’m getting real tired of wasting my time and money believing there is any truth to them. At BEST the food could be considered less than mediocre on a good day. The manicotti was absolutely disgusting and after 2 bites I was done, the alfredo was bland and barely worth eating. The food that was bought frozen and cooked was good like the mozzarella sticks, but any of the food that they made themselves was atrocious. The food reminds me of the show kitchen nightmares. The biggest slap in the face though was the rudest waitress I’ve ever had the displeasure to experience! She slammed down plates and cups when she brought food and then immediately turned and left each time without acknowledging us or looking at us. When we tried to ask for a drink refill she turned around and walked off and ignored us. She was visibly annoyed while we ordered. Her behavior was absolutely ridiculous! The other waitress I saw working seemed great! Sadly these reviews are not even close to accurate. The more accurate review would be a cute little restaurant with hit or miss service and terrible to less than mediocre food depending...
