Perry's is a study in contrast... Walking into the restaurant I was met with KJ103 blaring on the speakers, but I noticed the largest portion of customers by far were retirement age and older. Sure, there were a few younger customers, however not many. The wait staff was younger and had to be the ones driving the music selection. Honestly, I don't go to a restuarant with the intention of listening to music, nonetheless I prefer the music not overpower a conversation. To continue, there was a slight odor in the booth area I could not quite describe, nor will I try. Luckily "nose blindess" kicked in shortly after I sat down. My waitress was not the friendliest of people I have ever met, but she did take my order quickly and kept my coffee cup full. So kudos to her for attention. The food was very good. I had two eggs over easy, hashbrowns, bacon and biscuits and gravy. Everything was cooked right with one small exception, the gravy could have been warmer. Yes, I know I could have sent it back to be warmed, but I was under a time limit as I had to pickup my daughter from an appoint. The point here is that the cook was doing an excellent job.
Worth the price paid: Yes, the food was good. No, the waitstaff appears to only care about themselves and their wants.
Follow up: I returned to Perry's a few months later again while my daughter was having a procedure done. The music was turned down, my waitress was very nice and prompt. The booth area had no smell. The food was just as delicious as before. I will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place was great! I didn't know why they were dead, especially when everyone else was packed. Then, one of the staff (manager?) said they had a string of bad wait staff, and said they were afraid the damage was done. Well, not if my moderately famous reviews have anything to say about it!
We got out of there after an appetizer and two huge entrees, plus %25 tip for $50. That was a great value for all the food.
We got the fried mushrooms to start. Dunno if they were frozen or house, but they were fried fresh and crispy, served with ranch. Hard to screw up.
The real prize was the entrees. My husband got the chicken fried steak dinner, which came with rolls, a salad, and fries. The portions were Oklahoma proud and everything was delicious. I had the Perry burger, which was their variation of a Western Bacon cheeseburger (grilled onions, not fried onion rings,) and fries. All of it was banging. Ate ourselves silly.
The staff was friendly. Struck up a conversation about dispensary preferences. Then I head of the tragedy that was the damage to this place's reputation.
So come see em. The decor is very late 80's early 90's Americana. There's a good patina on the whole place, letting you know they've been doing this for decades. Don't let it end...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAh, Perry's. I doubt anyone will care what I have to review here but here we go. You walk into an old looking diner, only to see that inside it looks just as old as the out. Depending on the time of day, it can be bustling or it can be desolate. Sometimes the food is good, sometimes it's bad. Sometimes the service is great, sometimes it is not. But the one thing this restaurant has, is this strange feeling of Home. The bustling times reminds you of holidays long past, and the slow times reminds you of dinner at home with your parents. The waitresses are always friendly, and know all the regulars by name; which, is amazing as most regulars are retired or elderly folk. The cooks, have their good and bad moments but hey, we're all human, right? My girlfriend brings me here because she loves it. At first, I hated Perry's. I thought it too "low" for myself, as I am used to having brunch at Charleston's or dinner at Mahogany with clients/bosses. But now, I look forward to going. It's simple, plain, family oriented, and just simple food. Sure, the food isnt the greatest, but it brings some strange comfort with such an old-fashioned place, still thriving in...
