To be honest I used to love this place. The food is still very good and price is decent but the customer service the past two visits has been lacking. While my waitstaff at my last visit was the sweetest thing the person who appears to managment was not.
So a bit of a back story. Last time my order came out with mushrooms which I am allergic to. Waited for a remake. This time I said save the change and just ordered chicken strips. They came out and they were fish. I let the gentleman know that it smelled like fish. He went back spoke to the cook. Spoke to his staff. Continued about his task and finally came back after several mins and asked me was it chicken again. Again I reiterated that it was fish. He asked for my bakset took it back to the kichen and said nothing. Several mins past and my waitress came back and said she was sorry about the mistake and they were working on my order. Finally after the person whom I was dinning with was half though with their meal my strips came out. No offer to take my potatoes so that all my food could be the same temperature. It’s the little things this place used to do that made it feel like home. The consideration but clearly that...
Read moreHow have I not heard of this place? Yes, it's a humble cafe that might be in the diners, drive-ins and dives category, but don't we love searching for these little gems? The extra buns and take-out containers are stored near the restrooms, it's that small.
I noticed that one reviewer loved the chicken fried steak. Our party found the breading too thick, it didn't stay on the meat, and the gravy was too salty.
I had the mushroom and Swiss omelet. The cook really knows omelets. It was the most tender omelet ever. Also, don't miss the sausage links. They are good-sized and quite remarkable. My family liked the hashbrowns, and they were happy that marble rye toast was an option.
The coffee was good, and my cup was always promptly refilled. The staff is quick, hard-working, fast and friendly.
Be aware that on Sundays they only serve their breakfast menu.
Lastly, it was a hot day. The a/c did a better job of cooling the front room than the back room, so request seating accordingly.
Bottom line: Try this place....
Read moreWe finally got to try this joint on a Monday, it’s packed on weekend mornings like most breakfast places.
It’s a seat yourself kind of deal and the servers get to you as quick as they can, but even on a Monday it’s busy. All the servers will attend to you as they pass by, just because, and they will overhear you discussing the menu with your table and make suggestions, it’s great, I overheard a server being honest about what’s good here and what isn’t. I really like that because the menu is massive. They were playing hole and nirvana on the tv in the restaurant.
The kitchen whips plates out fast. The menu is massive and endlessly customizable, for almost every dish, you can customize the kind of cheese, bread, gravy, etc. the portions are huge. I ended up with two take away boxes just from my food.
Ive been to lots of local breakfast eateries as an omaha native and most are mediocre and unfriendly and inconvenient with payment methods, joes cafe is probably my favorite...
