Benson Theatre — Local services in Omaha

This place is decent, especially since it's understandable that the owners are putting most of their time, effort, and funds into renovating the Benson Theater, which they also own and is a couple doors away. The problem is that it is not really set up as a performance space. The small stage is right by the main street entrance, and as such is very distracting for both the performers and the audience; viewers can see everything happening out front and also whenever anyone enters from the street. The seating is also strange: long rows of tables set up perpendicular to the stage, such that people sit facing each other and everyone has to turn to view the stage. It's a great setup if you're running a restaurant, but terrible if you're running a performance space. These are not terminal issues, though; I hope that once renovation of the Benson Theater is complete, they will upgrade this place to a proper performance space if they wish to continue to use it as a secondary performance space to...

Saw a reading tonight of several short plays themed around disability performed by local actors with disabilities. Was not a fancy Play Production with two capital P's and a full set and costumes and cheesy showtunes. But it was emotionally and intellectually nourishing in it's own pared-down way. The short scripts were moving and funny. The actors were enthusiastic and expressive. The people putting the night together really cared about the message of inclusivity and representation. I was glad to be a patron. It was a nice evening, cheap ticket, good people. Free parking was available in the back; they put up a sign so I didn't miss it. I'll be back for another...

Of the theaters I've been to around the Omaha area, this one is very nice! Comfortable seats, lots of different seating options: booths, theater seating, and round tables and chairs. I believe there was also wheel chair accessible seating/ and stools near the back and a ramp on the right side down to the table and chairs in the front.
