Last morning at the beach, fam wanted to do brunch before we rolled out and Duck's wound up being the call.
Somewhat surprisingly, this was the only spot we had any meaningful trouble getting into all weekend; there was a 25 minute wait at around 11 AM on a Sunday. There's seating outside and a nice loud speaker so no worries about missing your name being called.
They were true to form with the wait time, though (right at 25 min) and eventually we got all 9 of us seated. It's a little cramped inside and can get quite loud but the decorations are fun and kitschy. The highlight of the experience for me was the service; everyone we interacted with was incredibly pleasant and working hard and very efficiently.
I ordered a breakfast platter that came with eggs, hash browns, bacon and a piece of French toast. Hubs got something somewhat similar -- don't remember what -- but sans French toast/pancake/waffle. I think my mother in law got chicken and waffles and my father in law got some type of steak or pork chop sandwich. That stands out because whatever it was he said he rarely saw it on menus despite loving it. I don't recall what the rest of the group got other than Sis-in-law and baby cousin got some kind of fancy cold brew drink and liked it.
The food was fine but I thought mostly unremarkable. The sweet tea was good. My eggs were cooked nicely but my husband's were veryyyy oily and he didn't care for them at all. My bacon was fine but a little underdone for my preferences. I did enjoy my hash browns; nice and super crispy the way I like them. I added bananas to my French toast and really wish I hadn't. The bananas were some of the most unripe bananas I've ever eaten in my law -- hard, bland, almost sour. I scraped them off and just enjoyed the French toast instead.
Overall, no huge complaints, but nothing to sing to the skies about either. Pleasant family atmosphere and simple, familiar food; the service was the best part for me! Not a bad option but wouldn't necessarily be my first choice...
Read moreWe were on vacation in Foley looking for a breakfast place. We decided to try this place out. I had high expectations being it seems they specialize in breakfast. I had the ribeye and eggs. The steak was very fatty even for a ribeye and was tough in my opinion and not seasoned enough. I did not finish the steak and that says a lot considering how much I love steak. I can't remember the last time. I did not finish a steak. Myself and the other member of my party both had over easy eggs. All of the eggs were overcooked more like on the high end of over medium. The corned beef hash extra crispy on the grill was actually very good. Also, the hash brown casserole I must say was excellent . We also got biscuits and gravy. The biscuits are definitely homemade and were good, but the gravy was obviously a packet mix. I felt it was a shame to ruin those good biscuits with a pre-made gravy. Especially being a restaurant in the south, I would not expect a non-homemade gravy ....It had no flavor whatsoever. Maybe we just did not order the right things, but in my opinion, if you're going to have anything on your menu it should be excellent and a restaurant should never serve a pre-made sauce or gravy, should always be homemade. The restaurant itself is very nice and clean. Good atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable...
Read moreVery disappointed that one of our favorite breakfast spots has taken a dive on a severe slope. Have eaten at Ducks several times each year we come down here and have never had a bad meal. I guess the law of averages caught up with us or perhaps it's the fact that there are new owners. I went for breakfast along with three others and was disgusted.
I very specifically asked for fully cooked scrambled eggs and told the server that I could not stand to look at the runny whites. When the eggs came not only were they not fully cooked they looked like they were scrambled poached eggs. I wish that was the worst of it but I had gravy and biscuits with it. I have never seen gravy so thin. One other person had gravy and biscuits and they sent their's back, big mistake. Ten minutes later the server returned with the gravy poured over the biscuits instead of in the bowl. There was no difference in the gravy, I believe it was the same that had been sent back, but now the biscuits were ruined. Needless to say no one ate their gravy. The manager came and said he would take care of the bill and apologized. He deducted $4,00 from the bill. We paid with a credit card then had the experience of learning that their "machine was acting up", We paid cash and got out of there before saying something I would be...
