My wife and I had a pretty good experience last week while on vacation in Orange Beach. We decided to order food to go later in the week, based on the recommendation from our server. In short, the to-go order ruined our impression of the restaurant at this location.
When we decided to order food to-go from the restaurant, the first thing we realized was that there was no way to do this via phone, and you could only use online ordering. This posed a problem, because the specials aren't available online, only the regular menu items. If you call, you are directed to provide a phone number so they can text you a link, no matter what you need. Despite this, we went ahead and ordered. I arrived 20 minutes after the order was placed online just before the time it was supposed to be ready. I then found that directions for pick-up orders were non-existent at the restaurant, and there was a sign with the specials blocking the pick-up location at the bar. I found someone who confirmed my order was not ready yet, so I waited... After about 20 minutes, I confirmed with the greeter that this is normal. Apparently, the online ordering has no interaction with the restaurant, so if the kitchen is behind, you are still notified when your order is almost ready, even when they are nowhere close to preparing it. After about 30 minutes of waiting, my food was ready, and I was able to grab it and rush out. To top it all off, the restaurant forgot part of our order which wasn't obvious from a quick check, so we didn't even end up with everything we paid for. In short, we won't be ordering anything to-go from the Ruby Slipper in Orange Beach again, and likely won't return, simply because the staff seemed ok with doing things this way. I hope someone from the corporate office reads this and realizes that the software needs to be fixed and the staff needs to be trained to run the restaurant in a way that doesn't treat customers...
Read moreHere from Montgomery... read excellent reviews and saw those deep GOLDEN BISCUITS online so we decided to give it a try! We thoroughly enjoyed our food and both the hot coffee as well as the Iced Coffee that I ordered (half sweet). My husband's omelet was PERFECT! My bacon was delicious as were my soft scrambled eggs. We both ordered an extra side of bacon after tasting it! Our creamy grits were DELICIOUS but a little on the lukewarm side. Nate did not hesitate to bring us fresh, hot replacements! THEY WERE PERFECT! The only thing underwhelming were the biscuits. 😔 Although they still tasted good, they didn't measure up to our expectations after what we saw pictured online. They looked nothing like what we had seen. They were more square than the round ones I was expecting based on the online pix. That isn't the issue though. They seemed to have been made from a dough that was poorly executed and didn't actully rise. They were not deep golden but they were cooked through and not dense, so still edible! I was looking forward to a light and flaky bite, but it wasn't a deal breaker, just a disappointment! Their jam isn't homemade (which I was aware of beforehand). I wasn't particularly fond of the brand they use (whatever it is) but I'm just picky like that. My store bought Smuckers (Blackberry) is better! The green tomato served underneath the biscuit had lost it's crunch but the flavor was good. If we were going to be here longer we'd still go back! I loved my bacon and eggs but I'd get the omelet my husband had! IT WAS TOO GOOD! I'd still get a BISCUIT (with regular butter, not the cinnamon butter) and a side of DELICIOUS BACON! NATE AND ANNA DID AN AWESOME JOB! THANKS RUBY SLIPPER! We'll be back as soon as we can. I might have to get that omelet for the road, if I can talk my husband into it! Bye yawl! Keep doing what you're doing, but your biscuits deserve better execution! They're actually good...
Read moreI struggled rating this review. My husband and I are here from Illinois. Lets start at the beginning. Saturday January 31st 2021
Greeter was very friendly. Said 15 minute wait but ended up being only like 5 minutes - Greeter and wait time 5 out of 5 stars
We were seated in the back area by the windows. Not bad. The first thing I notice was that the table is sticky. The next thing is the dried food on the wall next to me. Finally the spider webs next to my head. Cleanliness 0 out of 5 stars
Waitress Brittany - friendly, she greeted us fast and asked for our drink order. I asked if the bloody mary was spicy and she said not really. It was way spicy!! Different peoples taste buds lol. My husband said he would take water but would scan the menu to see what kind of additional drink he wanted. We ordered at the time I ordered the bloody mary. Brittany did not return. Our food came out and we had to order our coffee through the food runner. We saw Brittany again in like 5 minutes where I asked if my coffee was done. She brought it and we didn't see her again until she brought us the wrong check to pay. Service Unacceptable! 1 out of 5 stars
Food - I ordered the breakfast tacos add pork sausage for $13. When it was brought out I saw no sausage. I asked the runner if it had sausage and she said yeah see there is a piece. There was a total of 5 small pieces for 3 tacos. One had ONE small piece on it. Sorry but if I have to pay for the sausage to be added... I want sausage on ALL 3 TACOS. Overall though even without the sausage taste they were good tacos. 3 out of 5 stars. My husband ordered sweet heat chicken and french toast bites for $14. The flavor was really good. The french toast was over cooked and more like croutons. The chicken was also overcooked dry and crunchy. 2 out of 5 stars
Sorry for the lack of pictures but I didn't really think to do it until after...
