Kabi-Ji was such a great time. We went for my wife's 28th birthday and had a group of 12, so seating did take a bit, but honestly it was expected with a party that size. The staff was really sweet and super accommodating the entire time which made the wait feel way more chill. They were kind and on it from the jump. One thing that really stood out was the pricing. Getting filet mignon and scallops hibachi style with fried rice, salad, and soup for around 34 dollars? That is hard to beat, especially for the quality. Everything we ordered, from the steak, chicken, shrimp, scallops, New York, and filet was cooked perfectly. The chef knew what he was doing and kept everyone at the table entertained and full. The fried rice was also really solid. Not too heavy on soy sauce or butter, which I liked a lot, and the portion was just right. The sauces they give you on the side always hit. That tangy or umami punch takes whatever you are eating to the next level, especially when paired with the shrimp or chicken. Even the little things like the miso soup and salad with miso dressing were fresh and flavorful. Everything just came together nicely and I was honestly impressed. The whole experience had great energy, the food was top-tier, and it ended up being the perfect spot to celebrate my wife. I would one hundred percent recommend Kabi-Ji if you are looking for a fun hibachi dinner with solid portions, good prices, and a good...
Read moreMy wife and I tried Tabi-ji on a whim tonight. We both left very happy and wondering why we hadn't been sooner. The prices seemed reasonable at first. We were pleasantly surprised when we tasted the food. It was very apparent that we were getting MORE than our money's worth. So good! The combination plates are fantastic! The happy hour specials were phenomenal! The atmosphere was great! I would have to say my absolute favorite part of the whole dining experience was talking with a gentleman we believe was the owner. So nice and fun to converse with! If you have ever been to or lived in Japan, he will take even more interest in you. But he also took special care to take a moment to speak with every table. To me, that's a sign of a truly great restaurant.
Now for the technical stuff: Seating is spacious and comfortable. Dinner for two (no alcohol) will run you about $50. Not too bad at all. Food was delicious with some really true authentic flavors. Tepan tables get crowded quick so be sure to get a reservation! Sushi bar was spacious and just starting to fill up when we finished. (Approx. 6:30 pm) 2 sushi chefs preparing, so service is very fast. Wait staff is attentive and quick. Atmosphere is really welcoming and friendly.
Overall, one of the best, relaxing, casual (but also great for a fancy night out) dining experiences we've had in a long time. We will definitely...
Read moreTabi-ji is not just the greatest Teppanyaki restaurants in Orange County but it’s the greatest in all of California! I’ve been coming here for six years and never found another Teppanyaki place that can top this one in the entire state! While the food here is top tier and amazing, what it makes this restaurant so special is how super friendly, personable and hospitable the staff are. If you come here more than once, the staff here will remember you, your name and will treat you like family. All the chefs here are masterful at their craft and my favorite is the head Richard who will prepare your food to your liking. Like traditional Teppanyaki restaurants, your meal comes with soup, salad, steamed rice or you upgrade for fried rice, shrimp appetizer and hibachi. vegetables. My personal favorites here are the châteaubriand paired with their hibachi chicken. The garlic butter they use here is the best tasting I’ve had anywhere and their ginger sauce and mustard sauce are out of this world and will give your meal those delicious umami flavors you find typically expect from in Japanese cuisine. If you’re tired of Benihana and looking for the ideal Teppanyaki restaurant is the restaurant must come to. He will...
