It's been about 10 years since the last time I have visited an Islands Restaurant and like the last it was very enjoyable. Islands is one of those special restaurants that transport you someone far away. You walk in the Hawaiian themes surrounds you giving you a feel of a relaxing get away, away from home. From the decor on the walls to the bamboo decorations to the parrots hanging from the ceiling. It truly is a very tropical and puts your mind at ease. Our waitress, Melissa was so awesome! Bubbly, spunky and very attentive. Just what you want in a waitress. All smiles, the whole time we were there. Making you truly feel like your special. Great job, keep up the awesome service. If only one day more people would be just like you. Now on to the reason you truly read the review for-The Food. Fabulous, in short. I had the crispy fried chicken sandwich with bacon and I even added the fried red onions (spectacular, who doesn't like a little extra crunch). I also asked for the truffle fries instead of regular. The chicken was crispy, perfectly cooked. The bun was excellent with just enough golden tones to it. The truffle fries were covered in truffle oil and parsley parmesan flakes with a truffle aioli duping sauce. I do have to say it was quick favorable and rich, but I was only able to eat a few because it was so rich. My sons had the pineapple crispy chicken and my husband had the fish tacos. Both sons loved it and my husband said it was quite good, but he wished it would have had a salsa to go with it it would have been perfect. Normally, I don't go for desert, but my kids talked my husband into getting the Oreo milkshakes and then I saw the lava cake. I had to try. The lava cake was basically just a chocolate brownie with fudge and vanilla ice cream with whipped cream and cherries. My husband and I both split it and it was very good. At the end of the meal, our waitress cleared our plates and made sure we had everything we wanted, including boxes. In all, it was a great time with great people and great food. Thank you to all the staff that made this meal so good! Until we meet again. Oh at the end, my daughter did a funny little jig. I...
Read moreI came here one time after coming back from Laguna Beach. It was definitely the perfect place to come to since I once again, felt like I was still at the beach. With the nice tropical theme releasing a comforting aura that I was still within the same ocean breeze I was feeling before, with the scent of seaweed and sea water baking in the crisp sunny air.
Lets get back to the review shall we. The service was fantastic and the overall decor of the restaurant is why I always love coming back to Islands, and prefer it over other American Restaurant chains like Red Robin. What really takes the cake and is the ultimate determining factor of why I keep coming back is the Teriyaki Burger and pairing it with the Chicken Tortilla Soup. I love getting this soup while I am here. I also like the fries, is bottom-less with the purchase of a burger or by itself. I've tried a couple of their other burgers, like the Avocado Burger and the one pumped with bacon, and can say that most of their burgers are worth it. I have not really branched out from there, but from experiences with my friends while we were there was enough for me to say that Island's has a solid menu.
At this particular location, it could be quite easy to miss since it sits on Tustin Ave, a very busy street. Parking it plentiful, but can be a pain around peak hours (lunch and...
Read moreIt was ok. We almost got up and walked out. We sat down and looked at the menu for about 10 minutes. No one approached us asking if we wanted drinks or if we were ready to order. The person that turned out to be our waiter passed us 3 times and never acknowledged us once. When he came, he just wanted to take our drink order, we ordered our drinks and food. This was ok, nothing to get excited about. But when it came time to pay the bill, we gave the waiter our credit card, and he went to what we thought was to close out our bill. In a few minutes, I noticed him walking around his area looking for something. In a couple minutes, he comes to our table asking if we gave him our card. We said yes, and he started to walk off as we knew he misplaced it. He looked again and found it. I was keeping my eye on him from our table and could see him swipe our card. I told my wife that he had found it and was swiping it. He that comes to our table said he found it and that we scared him. I was thinking of how we scared him when he lost our card. Then he told us a story that the bartender had it, and she closed our bill and didn't tell him. Even though I saw him swiping our card. I made sure we didn't get double charged as we didn't. We will visit another Islands as we...
