If I were a pig that knew it was going to be slaughtered and dismembered, I would want to know I was going to end up here.
This is hands down the most tasty, authentic Mexican Food I have found. You need to go with at least 2 people if you are going to eat in. One person has to order and one person has to snag a table or fight off the pigeons as it is busy in there!
Do not expect fancy ambiance. It is like being in Mexico. This place is for people that want to eat and experience flavor first and foremost.
The carnitas goes without saying. It is so good, but I recommend you order the Chiccharone. Very similar , but it has more of the crispy bits of skin. The chorizo is like no where else. It has this clove type unique flavor and that red oil that drips from your taco is so sinfully delicious. I love buche and they do it the best. Chew, flavorful.
The prices are so cheap. I think the tacos are around $1.25 including tax. They are the big tacos and not the little ones all the other places serve. You get chips and salsa when you dine in which are greasy with lard and so good. And the salsa is a finer chop salsa with so much flavor and a heat that creeps up on you.
The beans are insane. I think they dump lard in the beans making it taste so good. I have not had tastier beans anywhere!
The tacos dorodos are good. They are more expensive, but they come with all this salad stuff and I think beans as well. A lot more ingredients than the soft tacos. Its a good way to get a side of beans without paying the price for a side order.
Burritos are MEAT laden. They don't use a lot of beans in them.
If you are entertaining at home, go here and order carnitas and everything by the pound. They give you everything (tortillas, salsa, onion, cilantro). Get beans and rice and unpack it at home and tell everyone you slaved over a stove making it. It's one of the cheapest catering options that wow your guests that you can do.
I can't speak more highly of how tasty the food is here and how inexpensive the...
Read moreThis place has been around for quite a while. I've been coming here for about 15 years. Not sure if it's still the same original owners but the taste of their food has remained consistent. I believe part of the building burned down a few years ago and they stayed closed for a good 2 years. I thought they were closed for good but to my surprise, they re-opened not too long ago.
Let's start with the positive: I have to say this place is probably one of the best local "hole in the wall" mexican food places when it comes to their carne asada tacos and burritos. You won't regret trying them out.
I personally haven't tried their full menu, but they do have an extensive selection of options to choose from (tacos, burritos, tortas, menudo, sopes, tostadas). Price/portion are reasonable. As of today (2/12/23) 1 carne asada burrito is about $8 (plus tax) and it's plenty of food for 1 person.
The tortilla chips always taste fresh and their red salsa is soo good (spicy)! Haha
The negative: The restaurant is small. You have to walk through a narrow little hallway in order to place your order and there is often people already there, just standing in the hallway, waiting for their order, so you end up rubbing shoulders with people.
Seating is very limited and the tables/benches are the exact same ones that i remember from 15 years ago. They look old, dirty and worn down. Same thing with the wall paint and interior decor. This place definitely needs a new restaurant layout and new tables.
I don't recommend coming to this place if you're looking for "sit-down" service with a large family due to the limited seating and sketchy people that occasionally walk into the restaurant.
I recommend ordering your food to go. I believe they also take phone orders if you want to order ahead and not have to wait inside till your...
Read moreHas been a year since my last review on this place and it is still getting better. From the looks of it, Tacos Los Reyes still has that quality taste that cannot be tried anywhere else in the Orange County area, it has that distinctive aspect about it.
On the plus side, since they're still doing in-person and phone orders it ensures the quality of the food will be amazing, honestly - when I called ahead of time - it definitely saves me the hassle of ordering in person, especially since it typically is crowded around lunch hour. With that being said, the prices here are adjusted as is to the current day so you can't really say much.
However one thing I do love still is the fact that you can get some medium sized tacos for cheap prices (With the exception of Asada and Barbaoqua) and it comes with free chips.
So my recommendations when eating here:
Get the Carnitas Taco (They are the kings of Carnitas, used to be called Carnitas Los Reyes)
Get the Al Pastor Taco (Essentially Carnitas but laced with BBQ, at least according to them)
Get the Chicharron taco
Oh and one more thing to note: Try paying in cash instead of Credit/Debit card, since they charge a 4% fee...
