I have never written a bad review for any restaurant in my life, but Mezza was bad enough that I felt the need to. Being of Lebanese decent, I have eaten middle eastern food my entire life and after my father's experience as well as myself eating at Mezza, I will never eat here again.
The first problem was right in the beginning when I ordered the Turkish coffee. Turkish coffee is a very strong espresso coffee that I have always enjoyed. At Mezza, they had put so much coffee grounds in it, that it was complete sludge and I was literally chewing on coffee grounds while sipping barely lukewarm coffee. I told my waitress and she told me she'd have them brew a new pot and instead they just filtered out the coffee grounds and brought back the same disgusting, cold coffee.
The second issue was when I asked them for Extra Virgin Olive oil. Being a Middle Eastern Restaurant, one of the most important things to have is extra virgin olive oil and when we requested some, the waitress said that they do not carry it. Maybe for some people that's not a big deal, but when you know what real middle eastern cuisine is, you know that extra virgin olive oil is a key ingredient in many dishes.
The final problem was that we both ordered ghalabba with LAMB. REAL Lebanese Ghalabba contains absolutely NO lemon and Mezza's Ghalabba was extremely over-saturated with Lemon, making it impossible to really taste the food itself. Also we order LAMB which is distinctively different in taste compared to beef. The dish we were actually served contained BEEF NOT LAMB! When we spoke to the owner, he was very rude and denied it and claimed that it was lamb, trying to make us feel stupid. We were not taken care of and felt disrespected and ripped off. My father and I both felt it was very unprofessional to argue with a customer and we felt it necessary to express our experience by writing a review. I hope whoever reads this decides to not eat at Mezza because most likely they may feel the same way we did.
I would also like to add that Mezza is extremely over-priced for what you actually get; which is low quality meat and vegetables and cheap, bad tasting dishes. I have also tried several other dishes there which were not...
Read moreThe warm pitas and delicious olive oil dip started this first time visit on a high note that went downhill from there. The garlic dip was requested which took three asks to get delivered. We ordered a bottle of the Cabernet Sauvignon from Lebanon to compliment our mideastern meal and the wrong bottle was opened, unceremoniously dumped into our wine glasses with the bottle divided equally into our four glasses, slopped onto the table as the server had no idea how to show the bottle to confirm it was correct or offer the person who ordered it a sip to confirm it was acceptable. After we clinked glasses and took a sip, we looked at the bottle and classes the bottle, with a tiny bit was left to see it was incorrect. When we brought it to the servers attention, they didn’t apologize or ask to correct it or even discount it on the bill. This left a sour taste in all of our mouths as we were served a $6 bottle of wine (quick internet search) for $30 that we hadn’t ordered. My lamb shawarma was completely dry and over cooked like it was yesterday’s left overs that had been over microwaved. The bread was the high point and was fresh cooked in their gas stone oven was the only redeeming part of this overly disappointing meal. Too many misses to consider returning so be aware when deciding where to go. There were four of us at the table at this meal, with a promising start, earns eight...
Read moreThe presentation of the sandwich was nice. However, the contents didn't follow the same vibe. The chicken was bland. No flavor without the garlic spread. The garlic spread was limited on the sandwich. We ordered a half dozen of bread. The bread was just bread. No flavor at all. We received two pieces of bread with our half dozen order. I called to inquire about how many came with a half dozen. I was told six. I explained my dilemma and was placed on hold. While holding I decided they could keep the overcharge for the bread because I would never visit this place again. Lesson learned for me. I will continue to travel 35 minutes to Oak Park, MI, to enjoy the flavors of a chicken shwarma and fresh baked bread like I'm accustomed. I refuse to spend money on mediocre food and zero compensation for a restaurants mistakes. It seems like the quality of food and the quality of service has increasingly declined. Therefore, I have choices on where and how to spend my money. Plus, I did enjoy the cooks or preparers of food wearing a mask. It provided extra protection over the food from spit that flies from the preparers mouth, not on purpose, during their conversation while making food. I think masks may cut down on food poisoning. No one in the restaurant who prepared food was wearing a mask. Mask should be implemented on a constant basis...
