PART 1: If you want excellent food no matter what, be it breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, fries, coffee cake, SOUP pretty much the best on the planet - anything, in a casual relaxed atmosphere, Tony's is THE go-to deli for an amazing experience. The staff is extremely welcoming and very attentive. It's informal, and warm, it exudes a vibe like no other place I've been to! It's like the house you grew up in and you've come back for a visit after being away for a while - you're home and everybody is super happy to see you and now that you're back, they're gonna feed you by golly! Not only do they serve exceptional home made comfort food, regular "American" food but also authentic Jewish deli food. I'm originally from New York and when I eat here I'm whisked away to New York again. I've been to many of the also terrific and authentic delis in all parts of town - West Bloomfield, Bloomfield, Oak Park, Southfield... and they're authentic with good food, but there's something magical at Tony's, you just kind of entered a portal that takes you from Keego Harbor to I'll say upstate NY vs Manhattan because it's a homier feel than delis in the city that can be a little intense at times. Tony's feels like a long established deli in a smaller town suburb in NY where you gather every weekend to meet friends and family to catch up on news over a delicious, huge breakfast or brunch. Or your family has a standing date to get together every Wednesday to break bread together and catch up on everybody's news. Lots of regulars come here every week or 2, 3 even more times a week. Why do you suppose that is? I'll tell you why - it's the always incredible food - every dish, soup, side, sandwich, dinner, lunch, breakfast is a home run, and it's a giant home run. No matter what I have I always have left overs that I can eat that night a few hours later, or the next day for breakfast of lunch! I do occasionally order a few things to ensure that I'll have leftovers the next day! When I get soup, I'll have a bowl - never a cup - because it's too good and cup is not enough - although if I can't decide which soup to get I'll get both of my favorites, so then I'll do a cup because 2 bowls would be too much, especially if I also order a sandwich - I happen to love their tuna - who gets excited over tuna? I do! If I'm in a tuna mood it totally hits the spot, and it's a must to have fries with your tuna sandwich. The portions as mentioned are large, very generous- so much so that I'm certain to have a whole 2nd meal the next day - I'll order the whole tuna sandwich with fries, and a bowl of soup. I have the soup first, savoring every delicious bite... and I'll the sandwich and fries arrive before I finish the soup.. so I put the soup aside, dive into the "next course", savoring every bite of delicious flavors exploding in my mouth, alternating the sandwich with the fries... and when I finish half the sandwich I somehow always have half a plate of fries left too. And I have some soup left also! So now I'm full, so I get to go containers and I'll have the exact full meal a second time at home. I gotta tell you, the fries heat up crispy (I'll air fry them for just a quick couple minutes vs microwave them, which keeps them crispy not soggy), the tuna sandwich miraculously holds up great - i have no clue how the mayo or lettuce/tomato doesn't soak through the bread and make it soggy- pretty sure the trick is to get your bread lightly toasted on the original order- it holds up GREAT! And the fries are an awesome complement to the sandwich as mentioned and they reheat perfectly too - the trick here is to air fry them to reheat, not too long so as not to burn them... just a few minutes at like 400°- they'll be exactly like they were when they were first served to you hours before. It's like you made them fresh and just plucked them out of the deep fryer and drained em... crispy crunchy yumminess! No kidding! It's magic I swear. Now I'm not an onion rings person only because I forget that they're a thing (since I'm all about...
Read moreLate breakfast on a Friday morning here found me enjoying a quiet dining room. I had driven by it twice as it is on the corner of this strip center but not easily marked on the east side of the building or on the faded shopping center placard. It was worth the effort! Hungry, I ordered the 2 eggs & 1/2 corned beef hash with rye toast & coffee after a quick browse of the delicious breakfast orientated menu. I could hear the griddle working as I sipped a caramelized coffee. I let my server know and she brewed a fresh pot that was good. The hash arrived hot, minced and loaded with onions & peppers. The over-medium eggs (3 medium) were placed on top and allowed some yolk to flavor the hash when sliced. The delicious meal I was craving, complete with thick seedless rye & strawberry jam. No prices on the menu; the 8. dish was so reasonable. The delish meal left me skipping lunch and satated until...
Read moreThis is, without a doubt in my mind, the finest deli in Michigan. You simply will not find better, homemade, quality ingredients or service.
The Embers Salad has become a weekly ritual for my lovely Lisa and I. It’s so addictive that I wonder if they’re sprinkling magic dust over the top before serving. Astoundingly fresh lettuce, corned beef (OMG), swiss cheese and their handmade ranch dressing with twice-baked rye - out of this freaking world, folks.
If you’re sitting there, wondering which restaurant to head to for your deli fix, get your tush over here to Tony’s. It’s a little bit of NYC in Oakland County’s...
