Wow. Wow wow wow. This place was fantastic. One of my favorite places in Coos County we went to during our visit to the Oregon coast. I can not recommend this place enough to anyone. While visiting, I looked at reviews of area restaurants this place stood out, and I'm so glad we went here. Since we were visiting, we tried a bunch of stuff at once. We got the fish and chips, and I upgraded to the seasoned fries based on other reviews. HIGHLY recommend getting the seasoned fries. But the regular fries were also delicious. The fish and chips were some of the best I had in the area. It was even better than some of the halibut I had at other places. The clam chowder was excellent. The potato salad was different than what I'm used to, but I would get it again. The coleslaw was one of my favorites I had. The beer battered shrimp was the BEST I've ever had. I've honestly never had a beer battered anything where I could actually taste the beer or any real flavor was added, but not here. I would die for those shrimp. We also tried the fish tacos, based on reviews, and they were excellent, but was slightly redundant as I had gotten the fish and chips, and the tacos just used smaller pieces of the same fish. But I would still get them again. The service was also excellent. The staff was incredibly nice and very attentive, and even offered suggestions of what to get. I can't recommend Fisherman's Grotto enough.

After being so isolated since March, coming out to Charleston for the first time was a breath of fresh air. The restaurant has so many interesting pictures and stories. We had a wonderful woman serve us our food and chat with us for awhile. I loved hearing about the family! I had the halibut, which was right out of the fryer, hot and tender. The six ounce portion was more than enough to fill up on. I heartily recommend the potato salad if you aren't into french fries. It is deliciously flavored with mustard and the perfect amount of mayo. The bathroom could use a bit of improvement, but it was clean and had plenty of toilet paper, towels, and soap. Make sure you say hello the fish in the tank, check out the pretty woodwork and consider a jar of marionberry jam! :)

The reviews were good for this place so we gave it a try. First, the service was friendly and fast. Much appreciated. Sadly, the food was terrible. I thought the bowl of clam chowder they brought was cream of broccoli. It was bland and mushy. The salad dressings we had for our salads were watered down blue cheese and ranch. The crab cakes were charred and way too salty, with several bits of crab shell in the mix. The fish and chips were just okay, nothing special. Even the baked potato was old and dense. Awful.

The service & atmosphere was good. They also have absolutely stunning handcrafted birdhouses on display for sale in the lobby. The birdhouses are the only things I'd ever consider returning there to buy. The food made us sick! My sister and I had our birthday lunches here. We both ordered & consumed the exact same menu items; fish & chips & shrimp with coleslaw. Within a couple hours after dining here, I became very sick, and had an extremely rough night. I was green around the gills! I had ALL of the classic horrible symptoms of food poisoning. The following morning I called my sister to see how she was feeling; she said she had a really rough night too. For both of us, the symptoms lasted about 36 hours. My Dad took it upon himself to call the restaurant to complain. The call was on speaker. I heard my Dad tell the lady that answered that both of his daughters had gotten very sick from tainted food. My Dad went on to explain our symptoms, and was interrupted by the lady, who stated that she had 2 employees out sick with a stomach bug that was going around & she suspected my sister and I probably contracted it too. Initially, I stayed quiet and listened to the conversation, but as soon as she tried blaming our illness on some bug going around, I interjected. I stated that I just came into town from a distance of 3,300 miles, that the 'bug' was not going around where I live, and also that my sister and I only just got together that very day. Additionally, neither of us ate anything since dinner the night before. The lady then offered to make it right and comp two meals for us when we come back. I told her we would not be coming back to that establishment, even if the meals were free. Yea, that's how frigging...

We just had the most amazing meal here. The owners are incredible and so personal and friendly. Great menu with many selections (even for those that do not like seafood)…it's okay, we can forgive you, but this is AMAZING SEAFOOD!! House made dressings for the salad!! GOLD STAR from me. Fast and attentive service. Everyone was so nice and chill. A very relaxed dinner with some great banter with the locals.

We noticed that a lot of folks were regulars....that is nice. Once you meet Kurt the owner, you are never a stranger again, Has such pride in his business and his wife, the chef is a culinary master.

I grew up in a small fishing village in the Irish Republic. I grew up on oysters. When I left home, I discovered that I would never taste, my grandmother's delicious friend oysters again. Many years later, after travelling all over the globe and sampling oysters most every chance I got, I never found any that tasted just like hers....UNTIL TONIGHT. It was a very surreal experience. These were spot on in line with I enjoyed weekly back home. So good in fact, that we are dining there again tomorrow before we...
