Definitely on my list to repeat. We stopped here for dinner, after seeing it yesterday. Though the parking lot was full, they still had a few tables open and we were seated swiftly. The menu has a wide variety of options, including some seasonal specialties. After a short wait, the young man that was our waiter came over and took our order. He was attentive and friendly. I ordered edamame and the sushi platter which came with miso soup, my partner ordered beef teriyaki and gyoza, and then we split a roll called Chasing Dragon. When the food arrived it was charmingly presented, the edamame even came in it's own bamboo steamer! My pictures aren't great, but you get them anyway. The flavors were vibrant, the fish was fresh, and the hot food was cooked to perfection. Apparently the gyoza could be described as "deep fried in heaven", which sounds pretty good to me. You could tell that there was someone in the kitchen that knew what they were doing. The restaurant was also decorated throughout with fun touches like a puffer fish hanging over the sushi station and a massive crab on the wall, and the light cello covers playing in the background allowed for easy conversation. At the end, they even made sure to send us off with some delightful little mints/candies! TL;DR great food, great service, fun atmosphere, parking was fine

This place is so good. I can't believe I never tried it before. It's so fresh and they have everything I even like stuff I dont normally eat on sushi because everything is such good quality. Also very reasonably priced compared to roseburg or eugene area, what you pay $18 for at tokyo bistro you'd pay at least $30 for elsewhere and it wouldn't be very fresh. They also have a fresh crab dinner for a reasonable price that is absolutely delicious. Their sake is really good as well and this is coming from someone who doesnt even drink much because i typically cant stand the taste of the alcohol. The service is ok, not the best in the world but that's OK they're usually pretty busy I do hate the small area. I wish the back room area was open more often. That's my only complaint you're so crammed in there 2 feet away from other tables. It's better to go in as well to see their daily specials.

This was my first visit to a Japanese restaurant and it was a pleasant experience. The staff was extremely friendly and the place had an ambiance of oriental. I was with a party of six and I personally had a Japanese style rib dinner in a manner than I had never had before. The meal started with Miso soup and while it was not my cup of tea (no pun intended) others at the table loved it. My ribs included one sprig of asparagus and a salad with a house dressing that was absolutely delicious. A side bowl of white rice came with the meal. Others at the table enjoyed Sushsi . I prefer my fish be cooked, but others at the table had nothing to say but good about their meal and raved afterwards as to how good it was. So, any negativity in my review reflects solely on my personal tastes. and not of that of my meal. So, in all honesty I have to give a full thumbs up and admit to being picky.

So first off, I am going to be 100% honest here. THAT BEING SAID... I will return to try them, because I'll attribute it to 'new restaurant syndrome'. Finding their legs and all that. That is the ONLY reason I am NOT giving this one star.

#1. I went to eat at 6:30pm, coming in to join someone for food. They had ordered 10 minutes prior. I come in, for 30 minutes the table is ignored. There are two waiters. The restaurant was only HALF full. It isn't a huge place, this was unacceptable. I watched the waiters, only one of them inclined their eye, and it was never -our- waiter. This went on, my dinner partner got served, they FINISHED THEIR MEAL before we were addressed again, at which point I decided "no, I will NOT be giving you my service tonight". We asked one of the waiters some details on the restaurant, such as payment methods, and we got... very vague responses. I'm sorry, but your waiters should know this information.

#2. The menu. I do want to give a positive comment on one thing - the menu is small, and appropriate for the type of restaurant it is. The choices are excellent, and the food looks genuinely good (A shame I didn't have any). That being said, the menu fails in a couple aspects. For example... where are the drinks? Now, I'll go so far as to admit, though I searched that menu high and low, it was near sunset and the lighting was terrible, so I MIGHT have missed it. MIGHT. If I have, then feel free to ignore the following: Why on EARTH would you not put drinks on the menu in COOS BAY?? For that matter, it's CLEAR you have sake behind the bar, and all the serving dishes to go with it, WHERE IS THE SAKE/ALCOHOL MENU? This isn't me being a snob "oh tut tut your restaurant isn't EXACTLY how a restaurant SHOULD BE hrumf hrumf snob snob." This is -standard- procedure for a place such as this. Very confusing. Also to note - many dishes have little symbols next to them (Thumbs up hand, leaf, fish, etc) whereas these are pretty obvious, some were a little confusing, and the legend for what these symbols mean IS ON THE BACK OF THE MENU! Which left me further confused until I found it, during my search for the elusive drink selection.

I'm going to give this place a couple of months, and advise those I know to also do so. If you can't get the basics of a restaurant down such as service and information (Something that sadly, many Coos Bay restaurants fail. This area is NOT known for it's food) how can you expect me to put any faith in trying your food? During my visit, there were times where between 5-10 minutes, NO WAITER WAS IN SIGHT ON THE FLOOR. I say this not to harp or be a mean person, I say this because for God's sake, I'm getting tired of seeing restaurants fail like this. I want this place to succeed. If I didn't, I wouldn't have stated ANYTHING positive, and I would have omitted this paragraph.

That all being said, I WILL try this place again, and I WILL edit my review, should they improve. I respect anyone who gets into the restaurant industry, and I make it a principal to come back and update a review should a place change (Beware, for...

We were really excited for this place, but unfortunately had an absolutely terrible experience. I’ve never left 0 tip in my entire life (and had a mini panic attack over it) but the service was that bad. Long story short - we waited 90 minutes for our sushi rolls to come, and the waitress basically blamed us for not anticipating the wait. Offered nothing, no apology, no sympathy, not even an effort to check on us as our wait got longer and longer.

We had a reservation (7:45pm), but it took a while to seat us. Then it took even longer for the waitress to come to our table. After we’d ordered several rolls, we ordered one appetizer and it was at that time that they mentioned that the sushi bar was backed up and we should order more appetizers to fill the time. Never could we anticipate that “backed up” meant waiting over an hour for sushi. An hour in, after having no one check on us at all, we asked after the status of our food and our waitress basically shrugged her shoulders and that this is what we should have expected when she told us it was “backed up”, and that they’re filling a big order that was only halfway done. Then she told us could just cancel the rest of our order and leave, or order more appetizers. At this point, it was after 9pm, when most other places had closed. Apparently, a table in the back had “20 rolls” that needed to be made before any of ours could be started. When we finally got our rolls, it was underwhelming, to say the least. The $19 lobster rolls barely had any lobster or flavor. Maybe it was because they were rushing? We noticed other tables around us facing similar wait issues, and a guy waiting 45 minutes for a takeout order. We ate quickly and finally got to leave at around 9:30pm, almost 2 hours after our reservation.

There were so many things that would have made this wait better or at least tolerable. I understand that restaurants can be busy and things can happen, but the attitude we received instead of empathy — and to not even check on us during the wait — that’s just bad service. Very, very...

My family and I was visiting the coast, and we were very excited to see all the seafood advertised signs on display in the windows. There were a nuber of dishes on display on a TV monitor screen. We watched through them but I was disappointed that when I asked my waitress about several options, she said that the items on rotation weren't actually what the restaurant served- just some of the ingredients that were used for other dishes. For example, raw oysters were beautifully displayed as a dish on the screen, but she said they never actually serve raw oysters ever. I looked to the menue instead, where a number of special rolls were pictured without a description. I asked to confirm the ingredients on an $18 roll, and ordered it. That said, the picture showed flames surrounding the roll, so I thought maybe they poured sake on it and lit it as part of the presentation. Or perhaps used a flame prior or during to presentation to lightly cook the exterior. None of this was the case. Again, when I asked my waitress, she said that the pictures on the menue were not necessarily reflective of the actual rolls. What?! The roll itself tasted good with quality ingredients, however the same can be said of many other places I had sushi at where the roll was about 4x the size for the same price, and actually matched the picture. Due to so much false imagery, I can not recommend this to anyone who does not have inside knowledge of what they should expect with each and...
