Empire Donuts — Restaurant in Coos Bay

It’s the only donut game in town and the prices reflect it. The basic donut prices here are what you would pay for a fancy gourmet donut in the city. That being said, the owners are very nice. Some of the donuts were very delicious (two visits) and some were “Meh” imho. The raspberry filled really delicious. The apple fritter was good but maybe a 7/10 on my “fritter scale” The cake donuts were half the size of what one would expect - almost a “donette” lol. Worst donuts. I ordered a Marionberry fritter. Soaked in oil, inedible. The cinnamon roll, same experience. Really no cinnamon in it, soaked in oil. We haven't tried the buttermilk bar yet. The only edible one was the peanut butter Marionberry one. Peanut butter out of the jar was globbed onto the donut. The filling was very good. The whole thing had a fishy after taste. My take is that they don't get the oil got enough, thus everything is soaked in oil and that they don't change their oil often enough or that they use a poor quality of oil. Empire Donuts has been a very welcome addition to the area! The have a fantastic selection and variety of options. Their frosted donut options are delicious (orange, blueberry, banana, etc). The staff has always been friendly and helpful. The price point may be higher than the average grocery store, however, for the quality of product it's more than reasonable. The one knock I have on them is when they bag the frosted donuts they don't use the plastic sheet to protect the frosting from sticking to other donuts!
