As a crêperie owner eager to indulge in some out-of-town crêpes, my recent visit to the Pancake House in Brookings left me utterly disappointed and disheartened. Hoping for a taste of expertly crafted crêpes, I ordered to-go and returned to my campsite only to encounter a culinary letdown of monumental proportions. Upon unwrapping my order, my excitement quickly turned to dismay as I was presented with a flat pancake masquerading as a crêpe. Topped with dishearteningly lackluster and unappetizing cut-up strawberries that appeared to be well past their prime, the overall experience was further marred by a side of melted whipped cream that did little to salvage the dish. Adding insult to injury, my attempts to place the order over the phone were met with unprofessionalism and disregard. The repeated instances of the call being answered but left unattended, with the phone presumably placed on the counter, only added to the frustration of the already lackluster dining experience. In light of this subpar encounter at the Pancake House in Brookings, it is with a heavy heart that I must declare my resolve to never patronize this establishment again. The promise of indulging in delectable crêpes was regrettably unfulfilled, and the overall lack of quality, coupled with the unresponsive service, leaves much to be desired. For those seeking an authentic crêpe experience, I would advise looking elsewhere, as the Pancake House in Brookings fell woefully short of expectations and left me thoroughly disheartened with its lackluster offerings and disappointing service.

Checked the reviews for breakfast places while staying in Crescent City and as we were headed north we decided on Mattie's instead of Crescent City due to the reviews and they were not wrong! Fantastic birthday breakfast, we were greeted on entry and brought to a table the last in the restaurant which was packed with locals and tourists alike. Definitely the favorite spot to eat! I had the Tomato and Spinach Eggs Benedict which was delicious and they actually made my hash browns crispy as requested! My daughter had the French Toast which was a large portion and she inhaled it. Our food came quickly and was hot, fresh and absolutely delicious and bonus great value for money. Service was great and all the staff was working very diligently. I loved the bathroom signage, well done having gender neutral bathrooms! I will definitely be back next time I drive through. I was here for breakfast around 6:30 am on a Wednesday in June 2025 - my wife and my sister in law visited here multiple mornings in February 2025 (picture is from that time). The place is quite busy during weekends and tourist season, one of the reasons we haven't been there more often (don't want to stand in line). The place is great, modern and clean, the staff during our visits outstanding, and the food did not disappoint at all. When visiting new places I usually ask "What is your favorite" or "What is most popular" - did not fail here either - she told me "The French toast is to die for", and although i didn't die, it was really good, the bread and custard cook combination was awesome, giant portion, and my side of bacon plentiful. And the best of all, the pricing is lower than average, it is if they forgot to to keep up with egg prices and inflation :)

I'm new to Brookings. I've been wanting to try Matties Pancake House and I finally had the time to the other day. I ordered a couple different things. They got the order right, which is great. The staff was friendly. I have to be very honest though and hopefully something changes and this doesn't happen to anyone elsle. I opened my takeout box and started eating. Everything seemed great. About halfway through I noticed not one but 3 small black hairs underneath the burger and fries. I felt like vomiting. Definitely someone's hair or someone has a pet and comes to work in clothes that they got it's fur on. Then, in the center of the lid...a small dead bug. I spent over $50. I even tipped them. How can you not notice 3 hairs and a dead bug and send that out to a customer? It just seems like there's no cleanliness standards and no passion for running a restaraunt. I won't be going back again and wouldn't recommend anyone...
