They couldn't run us out quick enough. Cant go below 1 star but just think of this review as a negative review. Food is decent but pretty normal nothing spectacular or over the moon. Just a local resturant we enjoyed for the water views and people until today. We normally get the carrot cake after dinner, which is delicious. We were respectful and kind. Always thank you and polite. We were placed in the back room near nobody. They were tossing dishes as hard as they could behind us into the bin. The waiter was not friendly and not happy to be there. No refills. No asking if we were ok. Manager stopped by and asked about dessert and then our cards to pay. Never have had this poor service here. My family was in town and I have raved and reviewed as highly as possible for years about this place. Now... after this service and being pushed out as quickly as possible, I will never come back. We spent 75.00 and left a nice 10.00 tip for the low par waiter. The resturant ran out of chicken tenders at 5pm so my kids had to choose a separate meal and it was 3.00 more due to their inability to plan accordingly for a Saturday evening. This was just myself, husband and kids. This did not include my father in law and mother in laws bill of 50ish without tip. Very upset about how they treated us. I asked the manager why they were rushing us out and her response was we have a party coming in of a table of 10, but not for another 30 minutes so we're trying to set up. There was plenty of room for them to sit in the room with us. Honestly I'm not sure what happened but I will inform everyone that asks about M & Ms, poor service from now on. The male waiter barely showed up to the table and didn't provide any refills. He wasn't happy to be at work and it showed. He ended up switching us to the manager so she could push us out as quickly as she could. She was polite about it but still was rude. My husband had the ny strip, no flavor and wasn't cooked to medium it was overcooked a tad. We got our own ketchup and A1 and waited for 5-6 minutes for the honey mustard that I asked for during ordering my meal. I'm not sure what happened but my father in law felt very uncomfortable by the staff, he believed it was his attire of jeans and his grunt style brand of (military based) t shirt that caused us to have the poor service. I think we were being descriminated against by my father in laws Grunt style tshirt that is a veteran owned, american loving, US veteran 9/11 supporting business. Maybe the staff hate veterans maybe they were just busy.... maybe they judged us off my mechanic husband's hands, who knows... My family is military and the disrespect was prevalent. Lost business from 8 people tonight and once I inform my mother and father (who are military) of how we were treated, they won't come back either. So make that 10 people total. But hey whatever. We ate paid for our meal and left, while others were sitting and enjoying their meal and chatting together without being rushed like we were. So idk. I'll find somewhere else to eat with my family and friends. Thank you for the meal. Normally we spend close to $100 a meal everytime without tip included and tonight we were a little cheaper since we didn't have any alcoholic beverages. We enjoyed coming sitting, eating, chatting, watching the water and the boats, but no more. Well sorry for my very long rant but eat here if you wish, food is fine, service is subpar. We enjoyed it until tonight. We proudly support our veterans and the businesses they own. Attire should never be an issue especially as close as they are to a military base. My children weren't an issue and didn't cause a mess or any issues. We always place plates together and place trash on top of the stacked plates to help staff clear the table quicker. So even after the way we were treated we still stacked the plates and made it easier for the disrespectful staff to clean up. We normally tip over 15 % even for bad service, tonight it...
Read moreOne word AWFUL!! Went here on Sunday night Labor Day weekend with a party of 6 adults. When we walked in instead of being greeted we were told it will be 45 minutes to an hour for the food. Due to limited options in the area at 7 pm we decided that was fine. We were seated outside and were greeted by our waitress after a couple minutes to take our drink orders. One of us ordered a Tito’s on ice, when the waitress brought it over she stated sorry your 2 cubes melted. The beer selection was very limited, for instance the bud light keg was “frozen” so I ordered a bottle instead but after 20 minutes never received it. When the waitress came by again she asked if I ever got my beer and I told her no and just to forget it. Instead of waiting the “up to an hour”, it took 2 hours for our food to arrive. After an hour and a half I went to inquire how much longer it would be and was told my ticket was next, and the cook yelled from the back (to me) “it’s coming and I’m working on it” as I watched them continue to take phone orders for take out and saw several take out orders ready to go on the counter. I saw there was ONE cook working in the back handling both to go and restaurant orders. When our food finally came out it was staggered in delivery and underwhelming in taste to say the least. A couple of our meals were not as we ordered but we ate what we could because we were starving at this point. I asked to speak to the manager, the same one who told us about the extended wait, but I was told he went home. So your restaurant staff is overworked and has one cook, and you go home early?! I was then told they called him and he said everyone had to wait and he told us it would be awhile. So thepoor service was on us because we were warned. Needless to say we will not be back any time soon to this establishment. My suggestion would be to go anywhere else in Oriental or fire up the...
Read moreJust a deep-fried diner-cafe. If the cuisine and atmosphere of a truck stop is what you want, then you won't be let down, but if you are looking for an enjoyable meal in a pleasant atmosphere, go elsewhere.
Based upon high reviews I brought my wife and daughter here for lunch. We were sincerely disappointed with two aspects of our dining experience. First I will touch upon the service, then the food.
Upon entering we were directed to view the specials drawn on a whiteboard. We were handed menus and told to sit "Wherever." In spite of the fact that our waitress wrote down our order when she took it, multiple items were forgotten. Once our food had been delivered, the waitress never returned. I had to stand up and walk around the corner to ask for a neglected item.
Secondly, the food was uninspired and deep fried. I have never before seen an exquisite bay scallop, which is meant to be seared for 90 seconds in a hot pan with butter and touch of garlic and salt, be plopped into a deep fryer along with french fries, but it was in that condition that my wife's 4 1/2 scallops were presented (yup, 4 and a choppy 1/2 scallops) which tasted more of short-order cooking than Carolina coastal seafood. Kids menu items don't need to be fine French cuisine, but kids know enough to turn their noses up at cheap pasta sauce direct out of a can, and the lettuce in our salads was limp.
To say we were disappointed with the return on our investment for the ferry ride over is an understatement. If you are coming to Oriental, there simply MUST be better restaurants...
