Solid, even pretty great pizza in Orinda? Yeah, it is. Very good crust, a little fluffy and pliable, but nice and crisp on the bottom. The pizza treatment feels like a hybrid of Bay Area old-school and Neapolitan, the former for the crust, the latter in terms of the sauce (quantity and texture) and cheese. Closest pizza in style that I can think of is Tony's, and while that isn't my personal absolute favorite style among all of the excellent pizza options in the East Bay, it's still quite good pizza.
It was better reheated the next day, so I might ask for it well done next time, but having just finished the pizza for lunch I'm looking forward to stopping in for a slice very regularly. If this place can't succeed here in Orinda given the dearth of good food in the burbs, I'll be amazed.
Constructive feedback: cut the mushrooms thinner, please! Double check salt on the sauce, tasted a little undersalted to me but that's totally subjective and is always going to vary a little from night to night - fixable with parmesan, chili, etc, too. Separate the croutons from the lettuce in the salads, they get pretty soft and soggy between packing and serving. I'm sure most of this is growing pains, and I'm sharing because I like the place and plan to come back!
Atmosphere is fine for what it is. It's in the old Nation's location, and it looks about the same but cleaner. I like a good New Jersey strip mall slice, florescent lights and all, so I can't complain, but I'm not so sure about date night or wanting to stay longer than it takes to eat. This is not a complaint.
Bottom line: go here for a slice (or a piece) if you're near downtown Orinda and want a quick bite. I haven't had better on this side of the Caldecott, and as a total snob that's high praise. Thanks to the owners...
Read moreThe Lamorinda area is usually a low key spot with not much going on. 8 Moose is the best thing to happen to this place in recent years. Excellent family owned pizza with fast and accommodating service, and always wonderful, fresh pizza by the slice (or whole pies). I absolutely love watching the giants game with a slice and chatting up the wonderful staff. The fact they are just getting started tells me they will improve even more down the line. Go check them out, at the old nations Orinda spot across from the...
Read moreI don’t ever review places, but this pizza is it. It is that guy pal. I never even knew it switched out from the previous place (which no offense, but I think they were getting the BevMo recycled boxes and then adding cheese to it). Not this place. The dough is so good, crispy, flavorful. Reminds me of when I lived in New York. Mama Mia orinda gotta a a finger licking good Pizzeria. Try...
