Great place to eat 9.5/10 times.
We have lived for the Wednesday $10 burrito special! The food is always great. One time the manager gave us a free round of beverages after we brought friends in to experience this awesome spot.
Recently called in for a carry out order at 8pm on a Wednesday for the special. At first we were told the kitchen closed. I called back asking to speak to management as it was only 8pm and the website says the kitchen closes at 8:30, and that the owner of the restaurant probably wouldn’t be happy with his/her employees turning away business during operating hours, and that we come all the time for the special. After being put on hold, the manager told us they could make the food and asked for my card info over the phone which I thought was odd, and didn’t repeat my order or confirm the total.
Upon arrival we were charged the normal price for our meal versus the special $10 Wednesday burrito price, which was significantly more. The manager told me it was a dine in only special, which was not mentioned to me over the phone. I explained I didn’t know that and I wouldn’t have gone out of my way to pass up other businesses to come for the special. She clearly didn’t care and said, sorry that’s the way it is.
Frustrated after leaving, I called on my way home to speak to the manager explaining I was not happy with how she handled that situation.
The fact we had to call back twice to place an order because we turned away the first time, well before the kitchen was actually closed, is not good stewardship of your business and of your guests.
To not be transparent/honest about the special not applying to carry out over the phone m and then not accommodating us after expressing the confusion/frustration was disappointing
For the manager then to not even apologize after me calling back expressing this frustration instead saying “thanks for sharing that” was a loss on her end to recover.
The food was great as always. However, to be guests that come to support this small business frequently rather than Chipotle or other restaurants, we did not feel valued, appreciated, or cared for on this visit. I hope the owner and management are able to learn and grow from this feedback to better handle these types of situations in the...
Read moreI went to Mamma Maria's this evening for dinner and was disappointed with the service and food. We were seated promptly and served chips and salsa then our waiter proceeded to serve the table next to us, which sat down 15 minutes after us. They were greeted with a hearty Hola!, asked what their drink order was, and he even took their appetizer order. After he served them drinks, he came to our table and asked what we wanted for dinner. I told him 3 tacos with rice and beans and my husband ordered the same. Before he left, I stopped him to see if I could order a drink, which he took then left. He then came back with refills for the table next to me, and later brought their appetizers. I guess he realized that my husband and I needed refills as well, so he asked if we wanted a refill, which surprised me because he could read the minds of the people sitting next to me, but couldn't read ours. When our food came, we were one taco short, which was fine because they were filling but not great, plus we were only charged for two. All in all, the waiter did not provide good service because he thought we were incapable of tipping him well. And the thing about self-fulfilling prophecies is that they usually come true because the prophet creates the environment for the prophecy to come true. I don't know the waiter's name because he was not wearing a name tag, but I sat at the fourth table from the main entrance...
Read moreWe were greeted by a lively hostess but despite no one sitting at the bar she placed us at a table. Sitting as close as we were to other people we would be able to over hear everyone's conversations. The place was loud. So I promptly moved to the bar. The moment we sat down chips and salsa was placed in front of us. Well if you call it salsa. It was really more like salted, charred, tomatoes. I asked the bartender if they had salsa Verde or hot sauce and she said no. She took out the jarred hot sauce and suggested one. For drinks I explained that I liked tequila but knew little about it. Instead of educating me or suggesting tequilas she suggested a cocktail, which is the one I actually drink all the time, so a good suggestion. It was awful, way too sweet. I left it at the bar. The tortilla soup tasted like it came from a box and then had salt dumped on top. I asked for salsa verde with my meal (b/c they do have it) It never came. I will admit the meal was massive, and the steak was cooked just right, but the bartender never brought silverware or plates for my date and I to share. Other people must like the place because the place was full. If you like spice, fresh food, cocktails, or educated bartenders go somewhere else. We did, just down the road in Homer Glen is another tequila bar, where we took a flight. Maybe that's just how things go...
