❤❤❤❤Absolutely wonderful place for subs and such! I grew up going to this sub shop, as did my father. It's a family owned business that has been passed down. They have FANTASTIC subs, made to order, as well as the best curly fries! I also love their shakes, that are hand dipped and blended, topped off with a scoop of icecream to keep it cold and thick! They can get busy, but it's worth the wait. They also take call in orders, so your lunch or dinner is ready to be picked up! I've grown up with some of the same faces still working or managing the place. Every employee is so kind, and they know what they are doing. Clean restrooms available. Indoor seating. Clean venue. Never once had a bad experience. One side note; If you are a sweet pickle fan, they have the best sweet pickles! (My daughter makes it a point to order extra extra EXTRA give me the jar of pickle... and has all of her life!) This Gabriels sub shop is the original Gabriels in Orlando. They have been in one place or another on Edgewater Drive in College Park, Orlando, since the 50's... They are in NO WAY affiliated with Gabriels on Curry Ford Road in Orlando. (Conway area) The Gabriels on Curry Ford did not disclose that fact to me, the one and ONLY time I went there, simply because it was, in my opinion, a good way to serve and keep a customer on the "coat tails" of the original Gabriels (on Edgewater Drive). (I thought the same, even discussed the original Gabriels with the workers, talking about how I loved their food, and was so excited to find their shop on Curry Ford Road... where they acted like they were one in the same... Keeping the info that they were a completely different company "on the down low". I wasn't thrilled with that dishonesty... Only to be told by the owners of Gabriels on Edgewater Drive they were not affiliated... That whole story is interesting, to say the least, but I won't share it, due to a more lengthy note here... ) Bottom line, stick to the origional, you...
Read moreI am seriously amazed that this place has a 4 star rating. Do people have such low standards?
The service is absolutely dreadful. You have to repeat yourself to the person making your sandwich 3 or 4 times what you want on it.. Then after you go through that hassle, the lady at the register makes you retell your entire order again. She then badgers you to see if you ordered tomatoes or extra pickles. If you did, they will jack you up for extra money. You want lettuce on your sandwich? Its probably extra. Everything is extra! This is probably why when you order a sandwich, you get mostly bread. For some reason they are so cheap with all their ingredients with exception of mayo. They slob about 800 calories worth of mayo on your sandwich, like it or not.
Also, when checking out they try and force you to use cash. They start making excuses that the credit card reader is slow or sometimes not even working. How much does a new credit card reader possibly cost? Do they want to reinvest any money into their business? It is pathetic.
The staff is hopeless and unorganized, they are more focused on bickering with themselves, or yapping about meaningless drivel to focus on making a semi decent sandwich.
The last time I was there a gentleman was ordering an "Italian" and trying to explain to the staff how to make it because she didn't know. I mean seriously?
Next time you stop at Gabriel's, be sure to bring your own tomatoes and Italian dressing.
UPDATE!!!!! Started having some very positive experiences at Gabriel's and I got to say it has grown on me a lot. If you get passed the quirky old-flashiness of the place, it is decent service and the sandwiches are really good. Nice job stepping it...
Read moreIf you are comparing these subs to Jimmy Johns, Jersey Mikes, or Publix, the quality is below all of those and with less variety to customize. If you would like to support a local restaurant in the area then the subs are passable and there are better options including nearby bar/restaurants.
The inside is alright with plenty of seating and a classic feel to it. Not the cleanest but not bad.
Prices are pretty good.
Whoever appeared to be the main owner/manager there was friendly, another teenager looking employee was working there and was robotic, seemed anxious did not smile once.
The steak and cheese/philly cheesteak, the meat was luke warm and was stringy and looked/tasted microwaved. The cheese wasnt mixed into it well, actually cannot say I even tasted the cheese. Not good and didnt really want to finish it. Peppers were thrown on the top, a little bit lazy. It fell right apart after one bite. Soggy.
The buffalo chicken sub was a little better in the taste, but the chicken was hard in parts like it had been sitting there from the day before and had sauce dumped on it to make it softer. A slice of cheese was slid in underneath. This sub did not break apart.
Maybe the cold cuts are better than the hot subs, but with other options nearby you are probably better off...
