Beware!!! They used to have the best oxtails in the city we bought food there frequently, even referred all of our friends to this small restaurant. Unfortunately they recently changed the cook because about 30 minutes ago I bought the WORST oxtails, Rice & Peas with fried plantains.
I should have known something was off when the plantains came out hard as a rock, look like they fry green bananas 🤦🏽♂️. I complained and usually there’s a short Jamaican lady who I believe to be cook who was always there but tonight one TALL lady came out. They were so hard and unripe that i gave them back and asked for rice & peas as a replacement. Now the worst part I took a bite of the oxtails and immediately spit it out. The flavor we’re used to getting wasn’t there, it wasn’t even close. The oxtail meat wasn’t fall off the bone as usual, it was like I was chewing on wild game. Also the oxtail didn’t taste as if they were seasoned, they taste like it was boiled separately from the gravy to make it soft then they added the oxtail to the gravy because the oxtail had a weird taste different from the gravy.
Like I said they used to have the best oxtail in the city they were 10/10 but when you change the cook you change your restaurant. I wind up going to Sunshine Bakery to grab some curry chicken because unfortunately their oxtails are...
Read moreI've been looking for a new west indian restaurant to try. Island Vibez has been on my list of places to try for some time now and they did not disappoint!
The place itself isn't the cutest or most perfect but who cares when the food is bomb! Also, most Caribbean takeout spots have the same kind of vibe.
Place your order with the person at the counter and they'll go get it ready for you in the back. The lady at the counter when I arrived was very nice and had wonderful customer service. She showed me what each box looked like to confirm that she completed my order properly. She also told me that I would be back--she was right.
Now for the food.. this spot serves jamaican food. I ordered a curry chicken with white rice and macaroni pie and an oxtail with rice and peas and macaroni pie. The flavor and presentation was ON POINT. The meat was tender and well-seasoned. I have to make it a point to say that most Caribbean spots charge you extra for macaroni pie, as they don't count it as a possible side, but not this place. This food was good for my stomach AND my pockets. The oxtail was a lot cheaper than I'm used to as well.
I absolutely would be returning soon. I almost went back the very next day! 10/10...
Read moreI am looking at these ratings shocked. You all owe me a refund... this was by far the WORST Caribbean food I have EVER had in my life. The patties were gross. Never had a beef patty with big chunks of carrots peas and minimal beef. I took one bite opened it up and threw it away. The jerk chicken was so dry it was inedible and the plantains were cold and uncooked. I threw everything but the curry away. We had to find something else to eat because this was such a bad meal. We tried your restaurant bc our favorite spot was sold out. We actually looked at several other spots too, but they were sold out of certain items. Now I know why... because their food is actually good! I want a refund for this miserable experience. We are all dealing with rough times right now, and to put out a product like this, is unacceptable. I hope to hear from management or ownership because you can't be...
