I like the way the restaurant is set off into the middle of the Marketplace plaza by itself, it gives it a special feel when you pull up to it. As soon as you walk in you're greeted by a hostess. Normally someone would open the large frame doors and greet you but we had an early reservation. It's usually a Sunday when we go and we like to arrive before it begins to fill up. The hostess led us to our table, gave us menus, told us our server would be Stephanie, and she'd be along shortly. She did appear shortly and greeted us with a warm, beautiful, welcoming smile. Stephanie asked who's birthday it was and my wife acknowledged it was her 29th...again 😄 She got our drink orders and also explained a special dish that was not on the menu. She made it sound absolutely delicious but my wife and I had already made up our minds before arriving on what we wanted. We started with the house Sourdough bread and butter. You can really smell the sourdough as you open the bread, it's not overpowering, the inside is nice and soft while the crust is light and crunchy. We ordered the garlic cheese toast appetizer because this is a unique creation. It's thin, very flavorful, very different tasting, and not filling whatsoever. For the main course my wife always goes with the Filet Mignon and a twice baked potato. I'd never had a twice baked before I came to the Keg and believe me I will never have any other kind again. It is the bomb, you MUST try one when you go. Her steak was seasoned and cooked to perfection and all the food arrived nice and hot. I decided to go with the bbq chicken and ribs. The chicken and pork ribs were meaty enough and I loved the way both were cooked without over doing it. The rib meat just pulled away from the bone and the chicken had only a small "leg" bone with the rest being succulent white meat. Both were lightly sauced and I didn't see a need to use the bbq dipping sauce, their flavors stood on their own. I also had a cole slaw with the meal and this was not your usual slaw. The sauce was definitely not one I've ever tasted before and I polished it off in no time. Stephanie saw we were done and asked about to go boxes which we said yes. She picked up our plates, disappeared, and returned with a handled bag with our leftovers all boxed up and placed neatly inside. Stephanie then placed a small "book" in front of me and I assumed it was the check but upon opening discovered it was a trick...it was the dessert menu, aye dios mio! The first item I saw, Billy Miner Pie, became our choice to share and I'm glad we shared because it was big, tall, drizzled with caramel, toffee, and covered on one end with thinly sliced almonds. O...M...G... This was a mocha almond ice cream pie with a chocolate cookie crust and delicious to the last drop. I never bite into ice cream but found myself doing it with this and without restraint. Stephanie was awesome and the food is great, the cooks, servers, and staff are phenomenal which is why we'll keep going back and taking...
Read moreWhile we enjoyed our meal, like normal, I felt the need to leave a review about an experience I witnessed with a young couple at the table next to us. They came out to enjoy an evening alone sans kids since they were able to find a baby sitter after many failed attempts. They seemed like a very happy and grateful couple, not just to be on a date together but to be at the Keg where someone else was going to cook them a great meal. And their meal, from what we saw and heard, was phenomenal, from the appetizer to the main course, the wine to the port and of course their waiter. The one thing that off put me most was the only concern the woman brought up, timidly I might add, as she was worried to cause issues. She found a chip in the martini glass that she had ordered as her initial drink. She was worried she had swallowed glass or maybe it was in her drink after her initial sip. I felt so terribly for her as she tried to politely and quietly explain to her waiter the issue. He was great and seemed very concerned. The manager seemed stand offish when he talked to her. His fake concern to see if she was injured by the glass really irritated me. The woman went as far as to apologize for being a bother, but didn't want the drink in case there was glass in it. His only response was that the "drink was on him". Right. Your only concern was if there was immediate injury instead of the possibility that glass could have been swallowed. Sure a cut lip is an inconvenience but the woman and her husband seemed to show no ill will or even anger towards the staff or restaurant but the manager came in on the defense. We felt terrible for them after the interaction and while we weren't there for the end of their outing, we do hope that the manger took care of that couple even though they didn't want to be a bother. They appeared to enjoy their time immensely and I do hope they come back as this is a favorite date night spot for us, but I really do hope the staff and management take a little more care in their inspection of items and quality of their work as this reflects...
Read moreI made a reservation for my husband's birthday through Open Table. During the reservation process, I noted that this was a special occasion, a birthday. That occasion was not acknowledged throughout our meal. We were seated at a small, round table that was barely large enough to hold the plates on which our food was served. I had to use the flashlight on my phone to read the menu. Hubby had an overhead light. I did not, and the room was quite dark. The food was fine. Generous mixed green salads with tomatoes, cucumbers and sweet peppers. The round, quartered loaf of white bread was OK. Nothing special. Husband ordered the pistachio coated salmon (his "go to") and the shareable, 3 pepper mac and cheese. He cleaned his plate and enjoyed the mac and cheese. I ordered the Keg 7 oz. Filet mignon, medium rare, with a baked potato. Sautéed mushrooms were also an accompaniment that was on the menu. The potato was fluffy, but it was way too small for the two big balls of butter that accompanied it. The mushrooms came with a vegetable mix of green beans and two nice sized wedges of beet. I ordered a medium rare steak. It was closer to medium, and the kitchen had actually sliced a bit of it off...I guess to test if it was properly cooked. I've never seen that before in a steakhouse. The green beans were warm, but really crispy. Not my thing. So, hubs finished his meal, and a runner swept his large plate out of the way. I was done, too, but my plate wasn't empty. It was probably 10 minutes before the server stopped by and asked if we wanted boxes. The next I know, I'm handed two boxes which I filled myself. I didn't know that was still a "thing" in high-end restaurants. We waited another 5 - 10.minutes for our server to return to clear the table. At the same time, he dropped off our bill. I was expecting to be asked if we wanted to.order dessert. (Birthday dinners are among the very rare time that we do order dessert.) Oh, well. I guess they needed to turn the tiny table. This was far from our first time at The Keg. This was our worst experience. So...
