Great place! The food here is WAY better than what is currently served at the (over-rated) Big Dipper, beating them in taste, value and appearance. Their menu is classic; not too large and nothing too far outside the realm of 50's diner food. It contains little touches of uncommonly featured fare, however, like the fried green tomatoes and cheesy stuffed tots, which adds a little something extra for your tastebuds to crave. Since this little spot is apparently the 'boro's best kept secret, you will never have to wait 45 minutes while you crawl through a mile long line of cars in order to eat dinner. Their prices aren't uber expensive either, and they offer daily plate lunch specials every weekday. Both the interior and exterior dining areas are kept immaculately clean, you get a full view of the kitchen (also super clean and organized) while your food is being prepared so you can be sure everything is done in the safest manner possible. Every member of their small staff I have met has been sincerely friendly and all were super attentive to us, even while dining outside, offering refills and delivering our food as soon as it was ready. Considering this is not labeled a full service restaurant, the employees all go above and beyond to make sure their guests are happy and comfortable. Lastly, it is conveniently located in the center of Owensboro on Veach Road, about a mile from Legion Park. 5 star establishment...
Read moreOwensboro friends and visitors, don't sleep on this wonderful find! Drive through, eat in or outside picnic area. I usually go for the burger, tots, and milk shakes. Tuesday, I tried breakfast!
I went through the drive through, the sign lets you know your food is cooked to order and may take a little longer. The person who took my order also cooked it, bagged it and gave it to me through the second window (she was fantastic at every level of service). She let me know the hash browns were home cooked when I ordered the sandwich (which I did place on my sandwich later). Plus I ordered sliced tomatoes. She offered a choice of meats and breads. I chose bacon and bun. When she handed me my food she let me know she packed ketchup, salt & pepper plus serving wear. When I got to work and unpacked, everything was still hot. The potatoes were crispy on the outside and fully cooked and tender on the inside. The potatoes fit perfectly in the sandwich. The sandwich had a soft fluffy bun, thick crispy bacon, a perfectly cooked fried egg, and a slice of cheese. I topped the sandwich with ketchup. The sandwich is delicious! I ate half and it perfectly got me through a busy morning at the shoppe. Plus held me over until I was able to eat the other half for my late lunch. I appreciate the convenience of the drive through, even with the wait; the...
Read moreLove this place since it was Carl's. Went on my Bday just for a root beer float. Wasn't able to get it but still enjoyed the food and service I received. Staff was very friendly like always and even wished me a Happy Birthday. No embarrassing singing which was awesome. The float I did get was delicious. It's a shame more people don't know about this little mom and pop type dinner. They treat everyone like family. I do miss the outside walk up order window they used to have but times change. They do have a drive through for those who want to grab and go. Service for the most part is quick. Seating outside is a little akward if you have a big amount of people. Still worth going back to eat. I will continue to eat here off and on until my dying day as long as they stay true to the belief that a happy customer, good food, great service and a friendly environment make for a great business. Thanks for being around for as long as you have and keep up the...
