Teen's Place — Restaurant in Oxford

Finally Soul Food comes to Oxford and of course my coworkers and I want to support local small business. My director and assistant director did come here before. Director got a Fried Fish Platter and enjoyed it. Assistant director got BBQ Chicken Platter and was disappointed esp by the canned green beans as a side. So director, assistant director, myself and our administrative assistant decide to go for lunch at 12:30 one day and found it odd that they don't open for lunch until 2pm. So 3 out of the 4 of us came another day. Now their menu is already limited, which is fine but the Friday we came it was even more limited bc it was First Friday in town. Plus they only offered 2 drink options; sweet tea and fruit drink. I got Pulled Pork sandwhich with side of Mac n Cheese and side of Seafood Salad. The other ladies got Chicken Sandwiches. The peice of chicken breast was big and the overall platters' presentations were nice. We both like the Seafood Salad Sides. I am used to box Mac n Cheese so the Mac n Cheese for me was edible. My Pulled Pork was tender and good. The assistant director again was disappointed by the bland chicken and flour taste in Mac n Cheese. She told me that I need to go to a real soul food place and sadly she felt this was not it. Price was a little high for me; little over $16 for my lunch platter. The place was small but nice decor with a little stage I'm guessing for entertainment. The front of the store looked like a store front area and when we left there were other small businesses selling cookies and candles which...

My husband and I having met the owner, it pains me to write this review. However, I think it's important the owner is aware of the perception of the front desk. I called this evening to place a pickup order -phone rang about 20 times before someone picked up -no one said hello, or can you hold..nothing -the phone was literally placed down -I keep saying hello...no answer -while waiting about two minutes or more, I was listening to a young man and woman Carry on a conversation about telephone charging bricks and not having one and I have plenty and will bring one. And further in I can hear the young lady say to the male, haha you're so funny. -shortly thereafter, the phone is finally picked up only to have it hung up. -I immediately called back and got a busy signal -called back again and got an immediate hang up -called back again and after about ten rings the female answered the phone -I began to tell here my experience and she said she would try and find out who had answered the phone. -I told her, you were right there when it happened because I recognized your voice from the idle chit-chat. I explained that the action was unprofessional and could result in a loss of business for the owner. After expressing my frustration, she apologized. However, I feel it's important the owner be aware of how the front desk is/is not being answered.

We have ordered from Teens Place numerous times, especially when our family visits from New York. The food...

WARNING! If you're driving and reading this, pull over because just thinking about how this food taste will put you in a trance! I went in not really expecting to be please, but man was I wrong! I was greeted by the hostess' when I walked in, and when I got to the counter and asked what is good....without hesitation they said EVERYTHING! So since I plan on trying everything eventually... I started with the go to.... JERK CHICKEN! Then added the Mac N cheese, fried okra and some shrimp and grits!! (hey I was ordering for my dinner and then late dinner, no judgment). First, shrimp N grits are delicious!! Shrimp cooked to perfection and grits reminded me of my time in Louisiana! 2nd, fried okra was the bomb! Slight crunch ans seasoned perfectly! Next up...the Mac N cheese....had me singing my my my!! And finally....that banging jerk chicken!!!! That sauce that sauce that sauce!!! I almost cussed! Since it was suppose to be my "late" dinner, I only tried 1 wing with dinner dinner.....(well maybe 2 or 3). Very tasty and the perfect amount of kick that leaves you teetering on....Should I lick my fingers and drink or should I grab another. Yep....I grabbed another! Needless to say, I'll definitely be going back to try something else. I heard the chicken sandwiches were really good, so that will be my next selection! Teen.... I shall return most def!!!
