Cabo Seafood Grill And Cantina — Restaurant in Oxnard

PRE COVID REVIEW: You know what? Now that I've been here a few times I figure I can rate it well Enough for a review.

There's a reason I'm only giving it 3 starts instead of 4 or 5. And I'll get into that. But first and foremost. The food is NOT the issue here.

Upon walking in I haven't really been greeted much. I usually just walk myself into the bar area. Where service is much quicker.

The restaurant itself needs a bit of updating. There is far to much clutter. And overall it just feels dirty. I know this is A VERY old building and location. But I feel it's about time to reinvest some of their profits in making their customers more welcome. What I can tell is this place only has regulars. Put it this way. I've had an office near by for 6 years. And I've only gone here 3 times. And reason being is it isn't welcoming and comfortable to sit in. BUT the food and service makes up for this.

I feel that if this place did update I its interior and exterior a bit. New customers would come in. Without a question.

Moving onto the food etc I've had. Cheese enchiladas. Chili rellenos Rice Beans Quesadilla

The cheese enchiladas your basic enchiladas. Although the enchilada sauce they use is good!

Chili rellenos. Fresh and made right. This is one of my favorites here. And I'll return just for that.

The rice is slightly undercooked. Or maybe I just got some that was sitting out to long? No sure. But it wasn't warm and was slightly hard ( undercooked )

The beans tasted great. No issue there.

Their quesadillas are a bit different. They have cheese, beans and other stuff in it I didn't really like. Reason I Say other stuff is because I stopped eating it and gave it away.

The service? Excellent. Very attentive. They know about their whole menu. Answered all my questions without hesitation.

So would I recommend this place? Yeah. I mean it's not AMAZING but it's decent Mexican food. And oddly it's hard to find that in Oxnard. Even with a Mexican food place on every single corner. I'll be back here.

Decor: A little older and dirty feeling. Needs to be updated.

Customer service: Absolutely amazing.

Food: Average.

Bathrooms: N/A...

Zero if I could. This place started out great for most of my experiences. Tonight was a game changer. I will never return. We went and were ignored and treated like we we're a problem to be in the establishment. We went to the restroom separately and had consumed a whole basket of chips and salsa before anyone acknowledged us for a simple drink order. We had 4 different people at our table. None of which was established to our server. Our order came out wrong. Not just wrong but duplicate wrong since we only ordered one dish. It was presented in 2 different ways and we accepted even though we didn't order. The older woman(she should be fired if this job is such an inconvenience, she's the worst) that took our order was in a hurry to leave and didn't even make eye contact. Not only she did not make eye contact, she wanted to bust a move to somewhere else before we were done even speaking. We left our food that was incorrectly ordered and finished our drinks and left. First time I've never left a tip in YEARS. Strongly avoid this place! I consider the service part of the dining experience and this place simply lacks any class. Food we ordered (whole fish platter with some small side dishes of shrimp and octopus; and 1 wet burrito) was ok. It wasn’t the greatest but not bad.

I’m giving 2 stars because of the service. We sat in their outdoor patio and our server was nowhere to be found to take our food order. I had to get up and search for someone inside the restaurant so they could take our order. Second, once we got our order, our server did not check up on us again. I had to wave somebody down (as opposed to having to get up again and go inside the restaurant) to get someone’s attention so we could get our glasses of water refilled. (We appreciated the bus boy/man who seemed to be more physically visible than the female server who failed to make herself available for her customers). The whole place was not bustling busy at the time so we were wondering why our server was nowhere to be found. She only appeared when she saw me inside trying to find someone to take our order.
