This review is solely on the the ice cream and I have to say I can't believe I never went to this place and I grew up in the area. How did I miss this place!?! Speaking to family who knows the leg of the food land around here recommended this place and apparently if one is taking about any food place for over an hour it is totally worth visiting.
When we, my family and I, drove up to La Gloria it was already night and freezing cold. La Gloria is located across the bus/train station on the edge of Downtown Oxnard, and can be easily missed. It looked like the train station building other than the sign hanging on the front/side. As I walked towards the doors I could see a bakery and a cafe. It was seating in the middle for patrons to sit down and enjoy their meal and to the immediate left was the topic of discussion. . . the ice cream.
The four of us all ordered a small cup of the ice cream which we were all able to get two flavors each and in total came out to $8 ($2 per cup). When the person serving us told me how much it cost I was floored. Oh my gosh what a steal!! Then a little skepticism came over me because something that cheap cannot be that good, right?
I ordered pistachio and pecan; the other flavors I tried was watermelon, vanilla, and cantaloupe. The first bite of pistachio has warped my mind and made me re-evaluate how simple ingredients into ice cream can transform. I've tried pistachio ice cream from the carton and I don't want to go back to the carton after having La Gloria's pistachio ice cream. It tasted as though they took the pistachios and turned it straight into ice cream, and the texture was between creamy and ice. The weather was cold and eating it made me colder, but it was worth it!! The taste, the price, and the overall satisfaction this place is worth visiting. The other flavors were pretty good, of course not as good as the pistachio. I'll stop talking about pistachios now. =P
If you're ever in Oxnard and hankering some ice cream come by La Gloria's, one of Oxnard's many hole-in-the-wall places. Happy...
Read moreThe Flavor Spectrum of Mexican Bread Bakery. 🥧🍰 🍩🥐🥖
La Gloria Bakery offers a beautiful cross-section of Mexican panadería heritage, where each bread carries a story—and a flavor—of its own. From the rich and velvety chocolate pastries to sesame-dusted croissants and colorful cookies, the selection speaks to the country’s regional diversity and deep-rooted baking traditions.
What makes Mexican bread so special isn’t just the variety, but the unique character of each type:
• Cornbread (Pan de Elote): Moist, sweet, and heartwarming—like the ones you loved that echoed the flavors of Guadalajara. It has that soft texture and subtle corn richness that makes it unforgettable.🌽🥧🍰 • Conchas: Light and fluffy inside with their iconic sugary shell patterns—a morning staple with café de olla. • Mantecadas: Muffin-like with a buttery essence, often wrapped in red paper—like the ones in your photo. Some are infused with nuts or chocolate chips for a delightful crunch. • Empanadas: Filled with guava, pineapple, or cajeta, they offer bursts of fruity sweetness enclosed in flaky pastry. • Cuernitos and Orejas: French-influenced croissant styles, adapted with a Mexican twist, sometimes brushed with syrup or sugar. • Polvorones and Galletas (Cookies) : The have different flavors and different Shortbread types and the cookies most of them have a buttery taste and are great to drink with coffee, hot chocolate or milk.I like the sprinkle-covered ones they are tasty vibrant, playful, and perfect for celebrations or for any day.
But the winner was the Corn 🌽 Bread it was sweet spongy, and moist. It had a very sweet butter milk flavor. I had this with Cafe de olla. It was a great experience.
Each tray, each bite is a window into culture, tradition, and creativity. It’s not just about sweetness—Mexican bread carries warmth, memory, and to have it sitting on a table to share with...

So..I went back to phone booth and there was a wall full of spices....I grabbed a couple..well as I woke up this morning my entire house SMELLED exactly like that market?? ...I guess I failed to mention that the butcher area has a scent of old blood ...which is not unusual for an over the counter old school butcher....but dam...it's like the spice packages soaked up the stank?? I threw them out...but since I had put them away in my kitchen when I got home ..it had time to marinade in my cupboard....I will not ever be going back...the male employees at the meat counter were RUDE , but not everyone was rude....there were 2 employees that...
