Yasubay's Japanese Restaurant — Restaurant in Oxnard

My husband and i went to eat lunch to one of our Favorite restaurants. Yasubay's not remembering the previous owner had told us they were retiring. When we got there we noticed some changes and the new people. We were greeted nicely, but when we asked for our favorite dish the Bento, they told us they only had spicy chicken... We doubted on staying and wondered if it was going to be one of those deals where we were going to have to unforite our restaurant. We asked the server if that a how it was going to be. She said kindly it was just because they were starting but that although the recipies weren't going to change it was going to be better... Well, we stayed and just ordered 2 of our favorite, the tempura rolls just to try... First they served us the delicious miso soup, then a bowl of salad with our favorite dressing, and then... They brought us the tempura rolls... They were more than double the size. Huge! Beautiful presentation! And the most important, they were delicious! Just like the server said, same recipies but better!👏👏👏👏 So we are keeping it as one of our favorite...

We were trying to find sushi close to Heritage Square and found this place. Very pleasantly surprised by the prices, as it was probably about 30% less than we are used to paying. The bento my wife got was surprisingly large portion for the $9, the salmon was a proper 4-5oz filet. I ordered a couple of rolls, the Sensual Pleasure roll and the Jalapeno Crunchy roll. All of the food came out pretty quickly. The crunchy roll had a lot more crunch on it than I had anticipated, but otherwise was pretty good. The Sensual Pleasure roll was great, spicy scallops and spicy tuna together made my day. I'll have to ask our local places to make me something similar. Overall a pretty solid place at a great price. Service is a bit slow, but...

Mediocre. Went with my husband and my daughter and all 3 of us were disappointed. It wasn’t the worst we’ve ever had but it is over-priced for an under-whelming dining experience.

Dining area needs updating, the tables are wobbly with uncomfortable chairs, there’s no air conditioning (it was hot and muggy). Server seemed like she was either counting down the days to a vacation or it was the 1 year anniversary of someone’s passing.

Sushi was SUPER mediocre and even though there weren’t any baked/warm rolls ordered, everything arrived at separate times with a VERY long delay in between.

3 seems too high and 2 too low. Wanted to leave 2 1/2 stars but it doesn’t allow 1/2...
