Picked up from this place few times before and the food was very promising, so decided to step by for a dinner on a weekday night.
First, the thing I liked best was the service. It wasn't quite busy there at the moment, but they weren't short handed and could've cover even if all tables get taken. Although we had a dedicated server, others also offered help with refills and other immediate needs. Everyone looked happy and friendly and that's what I like, you guys rock!
Again, the food was great as I expected. Complimentary tortillas came with 3 side salsas: tomato, pickled veggies and pico de gallo - all of these were legit. I got my favorite Chiles Rellenos, while my girlfriend went with Tostadas; check both out on the pics below. All of these were freshly made, super flavorful and very tasty. Kitchen 5 stars too, no questions asked.
What I will have a question about though, is a Margarita. Using drink mix in a Mexican Place is outrageous! This has to be authentic! This is your national drink guys, you have to fix this! Moreover, we're talking about the place with a full-size bar, not just someone pouring in the back...
One more detail, the interior does look a little outdated... Not sure how old this place is, but I think its a right time to implement some small cosmetic changes.
Mexico Uno has an authentic spirit and great potential. Investing a little bit of hard work and dedication may improve it and make the best...
Read moreWhat a little gem. It is a hole in the wall for sure with not much atmosphere. I was told the owners have had the restaurant for 20+ years between here and the previous location. And judging by other reviews it looks like they do some things well and others maybe not. It has a homey feel where the service is good and the owner cooks and delivers your meals. We went for lunch and I had tamales. Given that I've made my own for many years I know what I like in a tamale and Mexico Uno does them perfectly. There were large with a decent amount of masa and lots of pork filling. For $3 a tamale this is a great deal. Lots of flavor and very moist. The salsa verde was a good accompaniment. The refried into beans and rice were good. My lunch partners had a burrito (good size) and fish tacos and both really like their meals. I like that they offer flour or corn tortillas for the tacos. I finished with flan which is my way of knowing if a Mexican restaurant really "gets it". The flan was excellent. The sugar was dark and it looked as if it had been caramelized first. The custard was so creamy and tasty with a hint of vanilla. And it was only $1.50...I could've eaten 3! This will become a regular place for me because I can walk here. And I plan to try a margarita...
Read moreI was disappointed with the experience with Mexico Uno yesterday. We were shorted a burrito on our $76 order and when we called, Andres checked with the kitchen to see what happened. Instead of coming back and saying that they were sorry, he said that the kitchen said that it was in the order...basically saying that I was wrong. We were celebrating a birthday and it started the evening off poorly, because the birthday boy was the one that ordered the missing steak burrito. The food was just OK...the steak tacos were good, but the tamale was quite dry. The chicken burrito was OK. Andres said that he would credit the card we used for payment that evening, but as of the next morning, the credit has not been reflected in my account. Also, I could not find parking due to a street festival...so I ended up having to return home to pick up a driver so that they could drop me off while I picked up the food. Feedback for the restaurant...if you anticipate that there will be issues with parking, you should let the customer know when they order. And YOU SHOULD DOUBLE CHECK THE TAKE OUT ORDERS BEFORE YOU RELEASE THEM TO...
