Tievoli Pizza Bar in Palatine is a newer establishment making Italian pizzas, appetizers and deserts. I tried a thin crust and Sicilian slice. Thin crust: I liked that the cheese had a nice stretch to it. There was a good portion of sauce. The sauce was San Marzano tomatoes and made for an authentic flavor. The crust was crisp however, the crust was a little grainy. It was pretty good overall. Sicilian: Nice rise on the dough, ample delicious sauce but not enough cheese. It was over done on the bottom as it was too hard/crusty. I liked how they sliced it. I took a slice of lemoncello cake home and it didn’t disappoint. The layers were light yet had a nice texture folded in with layers of a lemon type custard. The icing wasn’t overly sweet and is a nice compliment after any entree. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was nicely decorated. I’m sure in time they’ll work out the kinks and I wish them much success. Part of me wants to go back and give them another try to change my mind. It’s a quaint little pizza place in Palatine.

I actually found out about this place from work, they told me they won some awards for their pizzas. Their parking lot is shared and if it’s busy, you won’t be able to find a spot. I believe they have public parking lots and a garage but I read mixed reviews about those. It’s best to come on a week night or non peak hours on the weekends. Service was very friendly. Prices were good. Inside is pretty nice and clean. Tons of seating. You order your food at the counter then they bring the food to you. We ordered one Tievoli small and one honey sriracha Detroit style. The portions were bigger than we anticipated which was great for leftovers. -Tievoli 5 - thin, crispy crust the way I like it. Nice balance of flavor, not too salty not too sweet. Good pizza for anyone. -Honey sriracha 5 - the Detroit style has a doughier crust. It’s thick and airy. Crust is very crispy. It is filling but not as much as a Chicago deep dish pizza. The honey sriracha adds just a tiny bit of a kick but not too much. Ample amount of meat and cheese.

Pizza is delicious! The dough is crispy on the outside but chewy on the inside. The pizzas however were a little greasy. My main reason for giving this establishment a 4/5 instead of 5/5 was due to the price. It is overpriced for what you get. You can get a large deep dish pizza for the same price at other places. The other frustration I had was that they do not offer free water and you need to buy bottled if you want water. I did not want to pay for water, so we bought coke instead. They have a large markup on beverages. The soda came out of a small fridge that was not cold enough. When I have pizza, I want ice cold soda or water. There is plenty of room on the side to put in a soda machine with complimentary water. For the above reasons, we will probably go back but only to order take out as I was not expecting to spend $10 on coke and sprite that come in a can, slightly colder than room temperature, and no refills. People get thirsty when they eat pizza and should not have to spend so much on beverages.

This place made an unauthorized and fraudulent charge to my credit card that resulted in me having to cancel my card and order a new one. I Ordered here several months ago, and today I had an alert indicating they charged the same exact amount I paid when I ordered and paid a few months ago. Be wary about giving them your credit card information. I for one will never order from here again.

UPDATE AFTER THEIR RESPONSE ASKING ME TO CALL THEM AND SAID THE CHARGE WAS NOT FRAUDULENT: My credit card company has deemed the charge to be fraudulent. I will not be calling. Instead, they can deal with my credit card company once I complete the fraud paperwork.

UPDATE AFTER THEY EDITED THEIR RESPONSE: I have my doubts about this pizzeria’s response because I have a text message from July 26 saying I was charged. I checked my text messages from that date to ensure I had been charged before calling my credit card company. But if they are indeed only charging me now, in October, after an order three months earlier in July, that’s completely unacceptable. For one, someone three months later may not have the money in the account to cover the unexpected charge and one they thought already went through. Second, and more importantly, it leads one to believe fraudulent and unauthorized charges have been made. Indeed, both myself and my credit card company believed the charges to be fraudulent, so the credit card company cancelled my card while I was on vacation and I was left with only the cash I had in my wallet. Again, completely unacceptable.

They can deal with the credit card company once I return the fraud paperwork my credit card company said they would send me and sort it out with them. However, my original point still stands: Be wary of giving this pizzeria your credit card information. Whether they fraudulently charged or only charged three months later, it’s a bad look, and their attempt to save face should be disregarded. I cannot trust this place and still will never order from here again.

UPDATE AFTER INVESTIGATION: after conducting an investigation, my credit card company has determined that they would be giving me a credit for the charge this pizza place made. That tells me they concluded and confirmed the charge was unauthorized. Again, I wouldn’t give this place your credit card...

We went as a family for the first time last night, overall we were very impressed and we will be back.

We got a regular pizza and panzerotti and both were cooked to perfection and delicious. My family member got the lasagna and that was also really well done.

We also got the buffalo fries and they were great. The minestrone was excellent but way more like a thick stew, almost no broth.

I was disappointed with the chopped salad. It wasn’t actually chopped at all. Chopped means chopped (like at Portillo’s). This had massive chunks of chicken and it was regular cut lettuce. Basically the ingredients were correct but it wasn’t actually “chopped”.

The other pastas (pesto and pomodoro) were just okay. We wouldn’t get them again. The pesto was rather bland (the sun dried tomatoes were amazing though) and the pomodoro was runny and not really sauce like at all. More like buttered noodles.

The customer service was AMAZING and we were very happy with them. They made right a couple of items. The menu didn’t spell out all of the ingredients in the salad (like Gorgonzola which is usually mentioned since even chick peas were mentioned). So while they did not make it wrong, they need to accurately reflect the menu.

The ambience was VERY nice as well.

Overall a great visit, just some things...
