One of the best ways to enhance your visit to a restaurant is to have fun banter with the server. When you go to Colee’s, ask for Amber (you know like an Amber Alert). She will dish up all the banter you want to keep you laughing between bites. My friends and I had driven two hours from our homes in The Villages, Florida to go to Ravine Gardens State Park. After our long drive and two mile walk through the park, we were ready for some good home cooking. Colee’s brought it!! Amber told us they make all their bread and we had already read in the reviews about these huge cinnamon rolls (the size of a dinner plate). Three of us ordered the special for lunch which was a chicken salad sandwich with potato salad or slaw. We thought we would get sliced bread for our sandwich. But, no, our chicken salad was on the most delicious bun. This sandwich was way to big to bite into because the bun makes it a sky-high sandwich. So, when you make the trip to Colee’s you must order some kind of sandwich and make sure it will be in a bun and not just sliced bread. Because these buns now negate that old saying, “the best thing since sliced bread.” Bread, you have a new bench mark, it is Colee’s buns. Of course, we finished off with the famous dinner-plate sized cinnamon roll. Three of us shared it and there was still some left over. This is a neighborhood diner type restaurant. When Amber and I talked about Elvis and I said I loved oldies, she immediately headed over and asked Alexa to play 50’s music. I had to give it only a 4 though because, these days many people eat gluten free. Unfortuanley, Colee’s does not make gluten free or even offer gluten free bread. However, my vegan, gluten free friend was able to order a vegie burger, no mayo, no onions, no bun. Amber gets a 5 star...
Read moreThey gave us the wrong order. We drove back up there to have to wait for it to remade. The other family was also inconvenienced and had to wait for it to be remade. She only issued a refund (which takes a few days to process), charged the original total and never offered anything else. Just "sorry". Gas is way to high and you could have at least took something off the tab. It'll be awhile before we try the business again. A whole one hour lunch break wasted on Colee's instead with my family as intended.
Edit: I called the number on the receipt and left a message. Both of the owners called me back. I told them what had happened and they sincerely apologized. They offered a refund or the option to come try them again on them. I don't expect perfect service just doing the right thing. They appreciated the communication and also me not being mean or nasty to the staff for the mistake. I adjusted my review to a 4 star and they recovered me as a customer. I appreciate both of the owners for being nice and making the...
Read moreColee's is basically a small diner on Hwy 20, like they used to be in the 1950s, which I remember well. Had lunch there with a couple of other people, everything was really good. I got the Reuben, which had real Reuben meat on it instead of the stuff you so often see, and my friends had the chicken salad sandwich and the patty melt. The meals came with chips, which is way better than a sharp stick in the eye.
The flavor was over the top, really good, the bread the meat the cheese the sauce we're all wonderful. F w i w, the half and half iced tea was excellent also. (Don't laugh, it's amazing how many restaurants cannot make a decent iced tea.) The staff were all super friendly, really engaging and outgoing, and the place was really clean. I dug it. So five stars for this little diner in Palatka. I noticed that it has a lot of 4.5 star ratings on aggregators like Yelp and TripAdvisor. Very highly...
