MAMA Seafood Restaurant — Restaurant in Palestine

We have ate at Mama's for years. Fried fish is very good, but the grilled fish is GREAT. Vegetables on the grilled plate are outstanding. Portions are large. The dinner salads could use some improvements, such as more items above lettuce and tomato. Suggestions include croutons, cucumber, and maybe pickled okra. Last week, my wife ordered a meal containing fried oysters, and the taste was bordering on dangerous. The shrimp has always been good, never a single problem. We have tried gumbo many times, and it has ALWAYS been very good. The staff is friendly and hard working. My advice is to stick with normal dishes, such as fried/grilled fish and or shrimp, preferably grilled. Skip the oysters. As stated above, we have eaten at Mama's for a long time, and will continue to do so. Keep in mind this place is not a 5 star seafood restaurant in...

The side salad is mainly lettuce with one tomato slice. The boiled shrimp was expensive for what we got. I can buy the same exact shrimp at the grocery store much cheaper. The stuffed salmon was mediocre, I make it better at home. The best food was the steamed vegetables.The sweet tea was good. Those two items gave it a 1 star from me. The table was sticky. The bathroom wall had never been cleaned by the light switch, dirty spot of peoples hands turning the light on or off. No one ever picked up our dirty dishes after the appetizer then served us our entre. When we paid the dirty dishes were still on our table, we even stacked them to make it easy. No one picked up any of it till we left. The filthy carpet at the entrance should of been a red flag. Disappointed since this had a 4.5 star rating and so many good reviews....

Had the 6 piece fried catfish with onion rings & hush puppies, which fed 2 of us. Restaurant was clean. Theye were busy & had an eclectic blend of customers. Fish was better than average for sure. Good serving size, crispy cornmeal batter, well cooked. The meat was a little more oily & mushy than I prefer, as opposed to clean & flaky. Thin areas were tough & a little hard to chew. Don't get me wrong, it was good, just not great. Onion rings tasted great, but we're soft instead of crispy. Hush puppies were well prepared & tasty. This is the kind of small business that deserves our support. Though I have had better fish, this place is still far better than most. Definitely worth giving a try & I look forward to returning & trying...
