I saw Izzys Diner on MAPS when searching for breakfast. They showed up with 4.5 stars on 385 reviews, so we decided to try it out. I am retired and have over 30 years experience in the restaurant business. So here goes my review.....The service was great and the place looked clean. However, this was by far the worst breakfast we (my wife & I) ever had or seen. She ordered two eggs over easy with grits, toast and what was supposed to be homemade corned beef hash. The hash was burnt to a crisp, greasy and just plain bad. Grits were ok, but in the south they better be! I ordered two eggs scrambled well, a biscuit, bacon and home fries. Eggs were ok. Bacon was obviously leftover and reheated on the grill as it was over done and very hard. Home fries, which I was surprised to see on the menu, were under cooked potato cubes with the skin on, obviously they need a lesson on home fries, biscuit was of the frozen variety but good. Then they didnt even give me butter for my biscuit, instead two little portion cups of freaking country crock! Nasty! And all that lousy food cost us $21!!, which we didn't finish. I wanted to complain but my wife deferred to being nice and just not ever coming back. Funny thing, our table gave me a partial view of the kitchen. There was a shelf where they had instant rice and instant mashed potatoes. Kind of explains it all to me, no integrity in their meal prep. "Izzy a cook?...
Read moreThis was my first time visiting Izzy’s Diner, and it will probably be my last. The service was slow, and the food was cold! I understand that it can get busy sometimes, but when we saw customers who were seated after us receiving their food first, it was quite upsetting. Not only did we receive our food late, but it was also very cold, indicating that it had been sitting for a while. The customers who arrived after us had hot food, as evidenced by the steam rising from their plates.
From my picture, you can see that the cheese on my scrambled eggs wasn't even melted. The ambiance was as cold as our food. Our waitress, Michelle, checked on everyone around us, asking if they needed anything and how their meals were. However, she never asked us if we needed anything or inquired about our experience. After taking our plates, she brought us our check several minutes later without saying a word, and then she just walked away.
We certainly didn't feel that our business was appreciated here, so we will take our patronage elsewhere. It's such a shame because I was really looking forward to...
Read moreI was not going to write this because stuff happens and I go here often and it's fine but this was wierd..I was in the restaurant business for 20 years so I notice stuff. My plate came out @ the bar, looked fine but then the light caught it just right and there was clearly a black residue all over the rim and 3 huge greasy finger prints the 3 huge chips I can deal with..I simply cordially said it has a bad film on it and the huge finger prints and I lost my appetite; I have been through many food safety classes and it's worth the risk; I am sure the food was fine. I look up and the chef is standing with the plate staring @ me..your wasting food she says..in front of everyone, I again wanting to keep it on the down low. as not to let everyone know for there good and explain its ok it happens..no big deal..chef turns and walks away as if I did something? I was not even looking for an apology, why would I need that, stuff happens I just lost my appetite..I have eaten here and it's always been fine, that was just wierd; I try to keep it on the down low and I get. scolled for...
