Twisted Biscuit Café, 4700 South Babcock Street, Palm Bay- 4-Stars
Located at the crossroads of original Palm Bay from when it was just a tiny Brevard townâand not the current 100-square-mile suburban sprawlâis a great little breakfast spot, Twisted Biscuit CafĂ©, where the people are kind, and the food is comforting. My readers know by now that I am something of an effendi when it comes to breakfast food, especially biscuits. Some of my fondest memories growing up are of âSunday Big Breakfast Daysâ when my father would mix up the most melt-in-your-mouth homemade biscuits prepared with real whipped cream and an entire stick of butter at the bottom of the pan. To the Big Boy, biscuits equal love.
Amanda is my waitstaff. She is a robust lady with an amazing personality who engages in her work like she enjoys it. She clearly lives to serve and feed people. Turns out Amanda and her husband, Josh, own this place and I am partial to small family-style restaurants.
With a name like âTwisted Biscuit,â you would hope the biscuits are the real deal, and they are. I ordered four of them: Buttermilk, Jalapeño & Cheddar, Blueberry and Cinnamon, all of which are solid choices depending on your mood; and the biscuits are served with real butterânot imitation butter spreadâa sign of greatness in the Big Boyâs book.
I also ordered the Chicken and Waffles, which is my go-to baseline for a breakfast restaurant. Again, well done. Perhaps not the best Iâve ever had, but good enough to stop back in for breakfast next time I find myself around these parts.
Twisted Biscuit Café is a shining example of cooking competence. Although they incorporate entry level ingredients, probably to keep costs down, they execute them fabulously, and although they might not be among the top breakfast places in Brevard, they get from me an Honorable Mention.

Read moreWent yesterday morning. The cold, drizzling rain made us crave a nice hot breakfast. Well... parts of the breakfast were hot, but the biscuits and gravy were tepid like they'd opened a jar/can of room temperature gravy and baked the biscuits the night before. I enjoyed my scrambled eggs (excellent - hot, creamy, cooked perfectly and not overdone) and country fried steak (crispy and hot). The (cold) biscuits were unremarkable, the (cold) sausage gravy was just ok; I took that home for later to reheat. The coffee though hot, was not good (weak, bland) which the waitress brought in two already-filled mugs with spoons stuck in them hooked in one finger (slopped coffee on the table top when she plunked them down with the menus; she didn't even notice). The husbeast was not impressed with his omelet (greasy) nor the cheddar jalapeno biscuit (melted cheese and jalapenos on a plain biscuit - again greasy). On a sleepy morning my brain is just not awake enough to endure the metal rock music they were playing (at least it wasn't super loud, but metal - really?!) One thing I will say is that the staff are super attentive, friendly and the food came out 5 minutes or so after ordering, so there's that. We could see they were really trying but... overall we were not impressed with the diner-like vibe and we don't plan on returning.    Read moreThe food wasn't bad. The reason for two stars is for whom I assume is the owner. A lady patron kindly questioned the 3.5% charge for using Credit Cards, and instead of politely responding "yes, I'm sorry about that, but we do", her reaction was to loudly ring out and point to the location everywhere that the charge was posted, "it's on the menu, it's on the door, it's on the wall, everyone does it" So everyone could hear, and I was on the polar opposite side of the small restaurant. She entised, and welcomed, one other customer to join in with the chorus of patronization. I actually felt embarrassed for her and I don't embarrasse easily. After the woman departed, it continued as a topic of conversation between her and the other patron through my breakfast and departure (a few minutes). I understand both sides, and it may very well be posted, but I didn't see it either! However, I also didn't see the word Gravy on my menu item, for which I hate, but there it was, smothered in it. Did I complain? No. Good thing, I may have been attacked! I recently retired and have lived just down the road for 20 years and wanted to start supporting a local breakfast joint close to home; get to know kind people because I traveled 50 weeks a year, but this is my first and last visit. It was so obnoxious. Customer Service Skills is certainly not her...
