We went to the farmers market at European Village - Palm Coast today and decided to stop in at Mezzaluna Pizzeria for lunch. The restaurant itself is very nice with the option of dining inside or out. It was somewhat cool outside so we decided to dine on the patio.
Our hostess immediately seated us and our server quickly followed up with our menus. Mezzaluna has a nice variety of items to choose from and we chose Pasta Bolognese and Shrimp Diablo. We also ordered two small salads, (a Caesar and a House), as they aren't included with the meals, ($4.99 each).
Our server brought out our garlic bread along with an oil and Italian Seasoning blend. The bread was warm, crispy and delicious. The salads soon followed and I was shocked at their size...they were huge! The Caesar Salad was definitely the better of the two.
Our main courses quickly followed, (a little too quick as we had just started on our salads). Both of our dishes were okay at best but were nothing to write home about. The Pasta Bolognese came in a huge bowl that looked like it was full of sauce but that wasn't the case. The pasta wasn't tossed in sauce and the little that was on top definitely wasn't enough for the dish. The Bolognese itself was actually very good, I just wish there was more of it! The Shrimp Diablo was actually spicy as I like it but the shrimp were overcooked and had a strong smell as if they might be old. The penne was also served without being tossed in sauce and all of the pasta was stuck together. Both of our pasta dishes were also not drained well and were sitting in a large amount of water.
I have heard great things about this place so it might have been an off day or they may have a new cook. Three dishes were sent back to the kitchen while we were there, (one dish had raw chicken and two people sent their rice balls back as they were cold in the middle). Their pizza actually looked really good and that would be my choice if I returned.
In the end I didn't love or hate anything. Our meals came to $74.00 after tip, (including a glass of house wine and an iced tea), which seems to be a little high for lunch. I will stick to Romanos or La Strada when craving Italian...
Read moreWas there Saturday night celebrating two friends birthdays. Marie our server seemed very unorganized. I ordered the Stuffed Shells with Meatballs only. Marie had to come back to our table to make sure she had everyone’s order correctly. When the food started to come out two by two members in our party waited up to five minutes until everyone was served to start eating. Food was getting cold at that time. My Stuffed Shells came out with one meatball and a sausage. I reminded her I only wanted meatballs. She took it back and when it came out she also had another persons dinner, Ravioli dinner. When she placed mine down on the table she spilled the Ravioli sauce down my back, arm and even got it in my hair. No “Oh I’m sorry”she said oh they fill these up with too much sauce. Really! She got me a glass of soda water and a towel to clean up with. I was not very happy as this was one of my favorite lightweight jacket. Tried to dab out the sauce as best we could but there was too much. When my bill came you would think she would have given me a discount. Nope whole total of the bill. I told her she could take my dinner off the check as I wasn’t paying for it after she spilled sauce down me. When she returned with my new bill she said “ I took off the shells and I hope you can forgive me, one day”. I didn’t stiff her on the tip as I knew w what’s it’s like to be a waitress and people make mistakes and spills happen. However, after I got home and realized how much more sauce was down my backside I sprayed with pre wash and soaked it over night. Did not come out. Now I’m pretty upset. Upside the food was delicious! I will go back but won’t have Marie as our server. Ever!!
Update: Viera the manager reached out to me and has graciously rectified the issue. She is most pleasant and cares about her customers. As I said before the food was amazing and I...
Read moreMy kid and I both experienced really bad abdominal pain and stomach illness from eating here recently. Rapidly, like not even half way through the meal. After spending 60.00 for 2 people to eat and having to throw most of it away, in addition to getting really sick this time, I'm pretty sure we're done with this location.
I already had a dislike of this place because they don't always answer the phone, they put you on hold for a long time, and I don't mean like 5 minutes, I mean I've stayed on hold multiple times for over half an hour before giving up. We'd get there at the time they said to pick up and still have to wait another 45 minutes to more than an hour to pick up our order.
The tea was horribly sour and had to toss it several times that we've ordered it, so we'd stopped even ordering it, as that means they either don't monitor how long it sits, or don't clean the equipment. Their food is over priced for the quality. The prices went up, but they no longer include a side soup or salad with dinners, you have to buy it from the more expensive soup and salad menu separately now, basically selling you less food for more money. Everything is an upcharge. We've only dined inside once because the menus, condiments and tables/chairs were sticky/gross.
We've always disregarded all the above issues because the location was convenient, and having worked in food service when I was younger, I tend to tip well and not complain.. but after getting sick from their food, I definitely won't go back and don't recommend them. I'm now assuming they also either lack quality control over their food, or have derelict staffing that tampers with the food. I don't know what the issue is, but my suggestion is to just avoid this place. There's plenty of actual authentic places around that offer quality food for the...
